Re: radiator for my 65 230
,,,,,,,,So lets help Rick out a little,,,,,,the radiator support bolts to the side of the doghouse,,,,and the radiator has to be 21 inches wide to fit onto that support,,,,,,and that is the goal,,,,,,make the new radiator be 21 inches wide and drill some holes in its flanges, so they match the holes already in the support,,,,,,,so what are we talking about, cutting a little off the side flanges to make it 21 inches across so it fits onto the support and inside the doghouse, and drill some holes in the new radiator flanges, just in case, its holes dont match the ones in the vans support?

Not 100% but wouldn't Russell's mounting method work? Angle iron bolts where original radiator mount did.
"I ended up cutting and drilling some 2" x 1" aluminum angle iron for the sides using the mounting holes for the stock support, they fit nicely with the radiator much closer to the fan. It also fits under the new doghouse well."

Re: radiator for my 65 230
These are the brackets I made when I had to move the radiator forward for the clutch fan. I took out the aluminum ones which worked well before installing the clutch fan. The painted steel angle iron is a little wider and I turned them facing the other way.
The square cutout is where the shift rods etc. go past the bracket. I'm sure I had to trim the radiator flange for those also.
Old brackets with standard fan.
New brackets with clutch fan.

Re: radiator for my 65 230
So for starters, how wide is that radiator,,,,,the doghouse radiator support is set up for a 21" wide radiator,,,,,,,is the Cougar radiator wider or less than 21"? Do you got to add to the radiator flange or cut some off just to get it to fit inside the doghouse,,,,,,,then we will talk about mounting it,,,,,,,,,,,,(tie wraps?...)

Re: radiator for my 65 230
the radiator itself would fit fine, the flange however is too wide at the top. while russels way is probably the better option, mine was already cobbed together before i swapped the rad so i started from scratch. i bent the front flange flat, drilled holes and bolted directly threw doghouse/lower flange using washers and spacers to center it properly. i then filled the gap with expanding foam insulation, sanded smooth and painted it black. this pic shows the flattened flange, bolt and spacer. it was cleaned up and painted afterwards.

Re: radiator for my 65 230
Ok Rick, you are getting the idea,,,,,but they are putting in a V8 engine, cutting the floor for the bigger 2nd Gen V8 doghouse, and moving the radiator to make room for the clutch fan on the waterpump,,,,,so you wont be doing all that,,,,,,,so basically you tie wrap the radiator to the radiator support, hook up the hoses and pour in coolant and you are ready to go,,,,,,,,however,,,,I think can figure out a better way to hold that radiator up than using tie wraps, and we will talk about it, it depends on how the Cougar side flanges want to be mounted onto the radiator support or even right to the side of the doghouse,,,,,,so I think we will be getting some angle iron to get the job done,,,,

Re: radiator for my 65 230
Is that radiator not in straight? Because of cooling fan or flanges not trimmed?
