window van cheap
I live in Arizona and I am looking for a roof and window section from the front doors back. I can travel to get it for the right deal and I really don't care about the lower part of the body so it can be rotten or damaged. Contact me if you have one you want to get rid of no title needed. Heinz57

Re: window van cheap
There's a 108 near me in pretty bad shape. I'll ask if a drive to Fl. isn't too far.

Re: window van cheap
Heinz, I gotta give you props man...you really go BIG! This seems like a great idea to make up for some lost interior space from all the mods that went on inside...is that part of the reason or am I just barking up the wrong tree? Love to know how your mind works when you come up with these ideas and you just do whatever it takes to bring it to reality! Love your build...keep it coming...please and thank you!

Re: window van cheap
The build was going very fast at my last job, at my current job I haven't been able to dedicate as much time. My intention is to fabricate the roof like the picture. Indeed you are correct, it is the gain back the 4 inches of interior space that I lost, by raising the wheel wells. I am currently wiring the vehicle and have a few parts together to hopefully get it running I had a custom driveshaft made I will have to get pictures and send them out.

Have you thought it all the way through? Are you going to eliminate the stock rain gutter? I wanna see!

I am very curious about this mod as well Heinz57. If you move forward with this please post lots of progress pic's. Always wanted to do the "Vista Cruiser" conversion on my Sportvan but could never find a Vista roof...

Re: window van cheap
Your sketch inspired me! I couldn't resist doing a Photo-chop of it! In doing this, I tried to go the easy way when a decision was to be made. Eliminating the rain gutter would be a lot of work. I think my method of just putting the new roof above the existing rain gutter is easier and looks better.
I tried fitting the curved front glass from a Vista Cruiser but it just wouldn't fit right. Repurposing the stock windshield makes sense stylistically. It's more like the Greyhound Scenicruiser. I positioned this little windshield so it starts right where the stock roof raises up slightly. I guess you could move it forward more so there'd be room for a tiny version of the cool "triangular" window but again, this way saves a little work and fits better.
(If you right-click on this photo and save it, you'll get a higher resolution version.)
My dad was a Greyhound bus driver and I loved the Greyhound Scenicruiser! Maybe I should do this mod to my van as a tribute to him!!

Re: window van cheap
Wow scary! You can make anything on the computer. I think the front glass needs to be at a slant for wind resistance. Also for over all streamline looks. I cannot imagine the work it would take to accomplish this re manufacture.

OK VANagain! Now that's cool!
And after searching unsuccessfully for years for a "Vista Cruiser" roof. Maybe your idea could be an alternative to a Vista!
** I think I will hang on to this picture!!

Re: window van cheap
Ok, here's a version that's more like a Vistacruiser. It is all roof (no second drip rail). I tried to take the same little flat side windows and just lay them down at an angle. It would take some real fabrication to get it to smoothly blend into the roof. And the hardest part would be getting the curved glass for the front. But it's a very sleek look!

So Rich, when do you begin work on your Vista Sportvan Deluxe???
Looks Great!
Is that a flat window across the back also? Very Cool Idea!

Re: window van cheap
I too have been wondering how to handle the rear window. The Vistacruiser wagons did not add a window in the back. My Scenicruiser version would have one for sure. I think it would look best with a split window, to match those in the rear cargo doors.
Ha! That’s what these Sportvans need—more windows to let in more sun!!

Not a bad idea I passed that through my head before, but I've seen it done also. I think I'm just going to keep looking for a complete roof for now but thanks

Re: window van cheap
Here you go! I recently learned that the Buick Skylark Sport Wagon also had the same roof glass as the Vistacruiser. Here's one for only $1350. It's in Great Bend, Kansas.

I have a small salvage yard with 220 Pontiac's and Buick's that I'm going to be selling off on eBay in the next 12 months, If there is something your looking for please let me know and I will try to list. Most cars are 1950's and 1960's but I also have a few late 30's and 40's. No convertibles or GTO's, but have several wagons and 20 to 30 1966 to 1972 Buick A body cars and 4 Buick GS's.
