I want to lube my speedo cable. Which end should I remove and what kind of lube should I use? Thanks!

Re: speedometer lube
I don't know about yours but the one on my '66 Ford comes out from the speedometer end. I wiped it down, blew out the shield with compressed air, then relubed it with graphite. OBTW, I took it completely out.

Re: speedometer lube
yes they all slide out of the sheathing from the spedo head end. I use graphite grease the black stuff. it is the right viscosity and most important it doesn't dry up. If you cant find that mix graphite powder with some engine oil.

Yes....Pull inner out from speedometer end and wipe clean as you pull it out and inspect it for ANY fraying..... If it is frayed anywhere, the inside of the sheathing is probably damaging it and the entire cable should be replaced (cheap!).....
WD40 or silicone lube through the sheath to clean it out..... then...
I was taught to repack with white lithium grease and I like the idea of spraying some graphite powder on it, as well...... Pack the cup before feeding the cable in and keep it full as the cable takes in the grease and finish the last few inches without topping the grease so the cup is less than full when done....

Re: speedometer lube
So I posted this question about 2 years ago and finally got around to doing it. My cable was dry as a bone when I pulled it but man, what a difference now that it's lubed up. I used graphite powder mixed in with engine oil.
