The engine bay looks very neat and tidy! Glad to hear it's running good for you...Now you can just enjoy and it sounds like you have Saturday Night Fever!

Re: GMC Jacke's van
Why was it dying on you? Did they find a problem or just swap the distributor?

Re: GMC Jacke's van
No I just changed out to the HEI. No problems now! I took her out today ran very smooth.Russell wrote:Why was it dying on you? Did they find a problem or just swap the distributor?
I believe the issue must have been electrical in nature. As you know, the gas was flowing when we broke down...LOL
Actually I drove up to the JBA shop without a hitch too?
I had them re loom the wires that were such a mess in the compartment as well.
Now all the electrical wires are up untangled and away from the manifold.
They re wired the alternator which only had one wire attached too. They did not find anything wrong with the rest of the set up. Glad I finally have a reliable ride.
I am looking forward to driving again.

You've come a long way in a relatively short time, van restoration wise! Looks great! Now enjoy it!

Re: GMC Jacke's van
Thanks very much! I am a go getter when I have a chance to get a project done. This project was bigger than most of mine... so I was glad to see the finish line. I am enjoying that hard work now for certain.Vantasia wrote:You've come a long way in a relatively short time, van restoration wise! Looks great! Now enjoy it!
I pulled into the gas station near my house, and there were two men in a 77 Chevy truck, as I rolled by their heads turned with amazement. They got out of their truck and came to ask "Is this yours...? You never see a woman driving one of these?" I smiled and said yes, they were very complimentary. One guy said he wants an old van project... liked Fords he said, but then commented he was a Chevy guy. Then he asked if he could sit in the passenger seat.
He was all smiles as he said to his friend "see this is the front of the van, right here!" nothing between you and the front!"

Re: GMC Jacke's van
That's Great and he brought up a point that probably would keep most logical people away from these gems..."nothing between you and the front"...we just have to try to be extra vigilant and look out for "cell phone swervers"!!!

Re: GMC Jacke's van
That's great too.. at every cruise night or car show I attend with mine, I always hear my Dad or I drove one of these at my delivery job back in the day and then they ask if they can sit in it, I always oblige. Same for kids, always let them in and crank the manual windows, open the vent windows and blow the old school horn! Unlike the muscle cars with all those please look but don't touch signs on their cars, I let the public enjoy it, what can they do?

Re: GMC Jacke's van
Yes, agreed. What can some people hurt who just want to experience that feel of the past.
I am starting a new project... been idle too long! LOL
I am making a sun shade for the side doors. I have some ideas and we will see if they work.
I will post some shots of the creation when I get it done... if that is possible. It is very nice out this weekend! Need to drive that little van around a bit too!

Thanks it was something I could make on my own with a ladder...LOL The shade cloth says it reduces heat up to 75%? But at least I can get out of the direct sun when having some fun outside.
I wanted it for the get together on Fiesta Island coming up 4/21! See you there!

Re: GMC Jacke's van
So I drove my van to work! I live about 40 miles from where I work!! So, it was the test voyage of Goldie. In morning and afternoon commute traffic, could she make it?
It was a tense beginning as drivers went speeding by me in the morning drive going 80MPH to my 60 MPH
I soon found that speeds over 60 MPH cause a shake from the front tires. I had never driven fast enough to realize those tires need to be balanced or replaced!
But, she ran good, and to make it all the way to Carlsbad from San Diego made me feel good!
My fears went away mile by mile, although it is not like driving my 2016 car, LOL.
I enjoyed being one with every bit of the road going under my tires, which where shaking at times.
It is hard to go under 80 MPH on the Interstate 5 Freeway during rush hour. But 60 MPH was all I could do and stay safe while driving, so I cruised in the slow lane for 45 minutes.
Now I have a tire store appointment Saturday!

Glad to hear it went okay 👌. It was good to drive it on the freeway so that you could find out it needed some work. Nowadays everyone is in a great hurry...

Re: GMC Jacke's van
So I checked the DOT manufacture date on my tires...2808 so they are just about 10 years old.
I hope they can balance them. They are new tires, that had been stock from a closed tire shop.
These are the same tires the van came with originally. The guy I bought it from showed me about 40 new tires and rims he had from his friends going out of business sale.
They were new so I never thought twice about the actual age of the rubber. The tires have maybe 150 miles on the them. New GT Radials are $148 each! ouch!!
What do you think if the tires are new but old stock year wise? Does it mean it will fail or?
