Want to swap a 3.03 into a 62 .. I have a 1966 as a donor and can cut the transmission mount out.. Has anyone done this and where is it tacked if so, it all looks pretty smooth and I don't want to cut all the way around and ruin it ... Also would it be easier to build an adapter or buy a rear housing if someone has one cheap? Suggestions are appreciated ...

If I had that one then I would be in good shape .. Since I have a 1962 van that has the donut style mount and a later transmission that does not ... And I have a 1966 van that has the later mount that I imagine I could cut out .. I imagine I could do that or I have an extra cross member from jegs or some where I might be able to build a mount from ... I am grafting in a 289, transmission and 9" rear end ...

Oh I see. Sorry can't help with the tack info on the 66 mount. I have heard of people making mounts to use the old hanger that wrap around the trans.

I already have a transmission, just looking for options .. I have a few options .. cut out the mount from the 66 .. build up a mount from scratch or use the one in the picture and find something to attach it to the transmission ..

I'm using a similar x-member for my aod trans, sans the high of course. Jegs or speedway unit with 8" drop.

Vic (Old Skool) makes a cross member that will fit your van. Cross member under the transmission is much better than the factory mount on top of the transmission. The key is that the frame is not square, but slightly slanted.

How did this work out Athens?
The crossover he's using is similar to the 8" drop one Speedway sells. These vans need a 12" drop tube if you are making one from scratch. You may be able to get away with 8" if you mount the tube to the frame bottom, but you may still need a bit more to get the output angle right. I know b/c I'm copying his setup with the AOD and cable shift, as best I can.

Re: Transmission mount .. For swap ...
The donut mount made the transmission too low for my tastes .. would have to have dropped the engine too far .. I just modified the regular mount to fit .. Made a mount on top that worked well .. Still dropped engine 2" at the stock 240 cross member and back about 3" to give enough drive shaft room .. And then the fuel leak happened with 100 miles on the set up .. Rebuilding it now ..
How much would a nice 66 gas tank with sender bring? I have run a scope inside and it looks good, and it holds water as a test ..
