I am also going to the highway gear ratio, to cruise, without worrying about stop light launches. I just installed a 2.70 ratio behind my 318 today. I should know next week when I put the van on the road if i like it or not. If not i will change again, until i'm satisfied. I just visited Wildcat Auto Wrecking in Sandy Oregon yesterday, and they provided me with the speedo gears to correct the speed error with the new ratio, as well as a second rear seat, and other minor parts I needed.rustytoolss wrote:anyone else want to join in ?, looking for some input.

Re: What gear ratio are you running ?
The person I got the 2.70 from had a lot of the gear ratio,s you are looking for. I could ask him if he wanted to part with one of them for you. What part of the country are you from? I,m in Central Washington State.dix wrote:The 270's gear should do you good. i'd d love to find a 293 but they are hard to find.

Re: What gear ratio are you running ?
I just changed out my 3.55 gears for 2.70. When finishing up the project, I discovered that the rear Universal joint has too small of cups for the replacement gear set. A friend recommended an adapter u-joint by precision, part number 347. it has the correct width, with two of the original smaller cups and 2 of the larger ones for the differential. Is sure made that a amooth installation.

Re: What gear ratio are you running ?
I got to drive the van on the freeway with the 2.70 gears. With the 318 and automatic, it cruises at 75 real sweet, with lots of room left. I thing it would be ok in Idaho or Utah with the 80 MPH speed limit. The engine is not laboring at all. I haven't checked the mileage yet, but I will post that later.lboast wrote:I just changed out my 3.55 gears for 2.70. Re: What gear ratio are you running ?
I can do that. right now I took it back apart a little doing some cosmetic paint work on it. as soon as I am driving it permanently.rody8808 wrote:Can you give an idea of what RPM's you are running at different speeds please?
