Re: Ignition switch removal
I've removed countless ones but the one I removed today fought me for almost 2 hours before I got it out. Worst one I've ever dealt with. The one in my 66 went bad so I pulled one in about 2 minutes from a 67 parts van I had only to find out it had an extra terminal on it and I couldn't use it. I had to order a new one. Next I went to remove the one in my 66 and it came out in multiple pieces. I pushed in and it turned and it just would not separate from the bezel. Wound up destroying it to get it removed. It just defied all logic for some reason. It just made no sense that it wouldn't come out. I'm hoping the one I ordered from AutoZone is the correct one, fingers crossed. It was $13.00

So....
I'm trying to replace my bezel and get the dash ready for paint. Does the key part have to come out to get the whole switch out of the dash?

Re: Ignition switch removal
I know where the hole is! lol
I was asking if it needs to come out in order to completely remove the assembly from the dash?

Re: Ignition switch removal
Yes it does. THen you have to compress the spring and rotate the switch while pushing in on the bezel.

Re: Ignition switch removal
Ok...Thanks. I have done the compressing deal with it.
I was surprised by the fuse box location. Pretty crazy and getting the headlight knob out was a trick...finally found the little release button on the back.

Re: Ignition switch removal
You should be able to just ignore the extra terminal on the 1967 switch and use it in any year. It goes to the brake warning light on the dash (1967 only), so you can see if the light works when you start the van. It would be best to tape over the extra terminal just in case something touches it.
