Had mine to 80-85. I have tall gearing 273's i believe with a 440 and 727. It doesn't feel very safe at that speed tho!!

Re: How fast have you gone in your van?
NO holes just pulled some threading out..!!!. .With the 307 V8 and 373 gears with 28 inch tall tires I have "No Doubt" it will do 120 mph+ but doing 81 mph and not knowing if the cars in front of you are going to slam on there brakes is pretty scary..... A early is sort of like a boat 80mph on the water feels alot faster than it does driveing down the highway in a modern car.. .Twinpilot001 wrote:Joe=????? was there also a hole in ur seat?? from butt pucker????????????

Re: How fast have you gone in your van?
Ok, first time on the interstate in the Possum van. 65 mph plus 16 mph winds makes for an interesting trip at 3200 RPM, plenty of pedal left but that's all the heck I wanted. Felt like it wanted to change lanes a few times.

Re: How fast have you gone in your van?
Maby I am wrong but I always say in a Early with a straight axle after about 70mph you are just along for the ride... ...mine cruises the best and the most safest around 65 mph..!!!..And a windy day makes a "BIG" difference...

My service truck runs 82 and lws67 has passed me several times in his white 67 panel on I85...
that thing has a 6 cly 3 speed and 355 rears. I can imagine how that feels at 90 plus..

Re: How fast have you gone in your van?
kookykrispy wrote:Twinpilot001 wrote:Haha!! if ur in the fast lane of I-5 there - @ 70 mph -u r backing up traffic!!
Maybe true in CA, but unfortunately, not true in WA. Drivers here in western WA are so deathly afraid of state patrol revenue machines (speed traps are a daily fact of life here) that usually nobody is exceeding the speed limit by 10mph or more on I-5. Seems to be up to 10 over is the 'grace area' where they will usually not pull you over. If I have somewhere to be I want to get there without delay, so I drive as fast as John Law will allow without ticketing me. The state of WA is greedy and hungry for money. It seems the lawmakers are pissed off at the general public because we keep voting against a state income tax every time it comes up on the ballot, so they are constantly inventing other ways to rip off the general public. Tickets, toll lanes, tolls for bridges that have not been built yet, raising our registration fees, and now these cocksuckers are pushing to increase the gas tax yet again, this time by another 11 cents a gallon!?! We already have some of the highest fuel costs in the nation.
It seems creating an additional source of revenue for the state has become the primary job of WSP. I see them out there on I-5 every day handing out tickets. Its like a well oiled machine to make money for the state, I don't think the cops give two shits about making our roads safer. I've received one myself last spring, and was not too thrilled about it. I fought it in court and when it got to the judge he threw it out because the radar the cop was using was actually being operated in an illegal manner. (he did not have it correctly calibrated) 99% of driver's don't fight their tickets in court, they just pay it. Thus the WSP revenue machine continues to operate, even with illegal equipment.
Amen to that!!!! I moved out here about ten years ago and could not believe the level of enforcement by the State'rs. I've travelled this nation extensively and never been through any state as bad as Washington in that regard. It's sad and something should be done about it. Damned vampires!!!!
But on the topic, believe it or not I got my little 144 powered Econo w/ 3.03 and 3.5:1 rear going over 60 out here on Highway 20 one night just to see if it could. Think I topped out around 63. Poor thing was wound up hard It got to a point where you could just hear/feel the engine run out of breath, it was all she had it in her.

Re: How fast have you gone in your van?
being on the east side of wa state- i see the same here too- were usually good/safe @ 7 mph over limit yet- this state is being governed by the west side dems & are just $$$$$$$$ Hungry. If the politicians can devise a way to get more $$ they will try it!!- some years back - when u bought a new car / truck or renewed a lisence for a new one - the lisence fees were based on the value of the vehicle!! Therefore - the plate fees could be over 1500.00 ++ a year!! That was changed by a man thats great for the citizens against things like that - his name = "tim eiman" (sp??) We all =in every state need to vote down "Big Gov't" & its we need more $$ for more government!! Also - limits for /on terms in office!! max 8 years -then see who wants that job!!

Re: How fast have you gone in your van?
Why don't you just go up a couple of sizes on the rear tires it will bring your RPM's down quite a bit and is a lot cheaper than changing the gears..That is high RPM's to go any great distance.!!!.. (2-3 hour trip).. looks like you have the room each size is a inch taller 205,,215..225,,Ect.. Half inch on the top and half inch on the bottom..!!!.. ..JMO..playnpossum wrote:Ok, first time on the interstate in the Possum van. 65 mph plus 16 mph winds makes for an interesting trip at 3200 RPM, plenty of pedal left but that's all the heck I wanted.
