What Tires for a14" rim. Empty What Tires for a14" rim.

I have a 64 A100 with the 14" rims, I could really use some tire advice, What should I buy? I want to keep the 14s at least for now, and need to get some fresh rubber asap. What's a good size radial to run? I understand it was supposed to run Bias ply, but that's hard to find.

I thought I saw a thread about this before, but could not find it.

As far as tire size you can run 215/70/14 witch is about 25 inches tall or 225/70/14 witch is about 26 inches tall and is the tallest tire you can put on the front axel without rubbing.Smile . As far as tires go I have had the best luck with the Cooper Cobra Gt Radials.!!!!!!!!!!!.(I have 215/70's up front on mine)

Really? It seems pretty cavernous under the fenders. A 70 series is as big as I can go? I plan on bombing this thing down a lot of dirt roads and was thinking of going with BFG AT2s. Sure would like some meat between me and the roadbed. Also concerned about load ratings.

Discount tire has this chart that shows all the size differences between tires,,,,,but the width of the rim limits how wide a tire will ride and wear properly,,,,,,,,,

Yeah, I went through that chart last night, but i was not sure what was optimal for this van. Also, they have very little selection, so I am going to have to order them, and i really want to make sure I do that part right. The cooper sounds decent, I was told I could get it in a 60 series, but I like a tall tire that I can air down in the soft stuff...

Donivan is right you are really limited to how wide your rim is.!!!. I have 275/60/15 on the rear of mine but they are on a 10 inch wide rim.. What LOOK are you going for.??? (Do you want all terrains?? Cooper has the AT3"s you can go 225/70/14 all around).OR you can run 215/70/14 on the front and 245/60/14 on rear (street tread) with stock rims and should give you plenty of wheel well clearance for off road and plenty of width in the rear for traction also.!!!!! I get the best on and off road traction with the Cooper Cobras I have had BF Goodrichs for many many years and have had quite a few that the belts have separate a year or two down the road and the Company would not pro rate it plus a couple of blow outs also.!!!! The Cobras hold 44 lbs max and Bf Goodrich is only 35 lbs max plus I did not do very well in the sand with the BFG'S (street tread) and I have a posi in my 3Rd Gen also but if you are dead set on them they should work fine either way keep us posted.Smile ........

Picking up 2 tires today. I could not find anything locally that I could get installed bigger than a 207/75/14r, and am getting 2 so that they will match the front.I had bias on the back and radials up front... The radials have about 40,000 miles to go before they are worn out... By then I hope to find some15" slots...

FYI, the guys at Discount won't put a tire on the stock 14" rim bigger than a 205 width. I ended up getting 2 205/75/14s on there, and they are not great tires... So I guess I am on the search for rims before my fronts are worn out...

The first number (205) is how tall the tire is the second number(75) is how wide the tire is  the last one is the rim size(14). so 215/70/14 would be about a inch taller than the 205/75/14 you have now but you CAN fit a 225/70/14 on a stock rim it would be 2 inches taller and about 1/2 inch wider than the ones you just bought.Smile .  Most all Ford Ranger pick up's take 225/70/14 on there trucks from the factory with the 14 inch stock rims.

I went to the Discount Tire by my house and had four Cooper Cobra 225/70/14's put on my van. No issues at all with clearances etc and they they look good. If you have deep pockets you can get Mickey Thompson Indy Profile bias plys from Summit Racing.

There were some steel 14" rims in my van when I got it that had 205?/75/14's on them but they were dry rotted so I never ran them.

Find out where they are made. Anything cheap is made in China or some other country that has poor standards. I would not use Asian Tires on my cars ,trucks or vans!
