Belly pan and engine Temp??? Empty Belly pan and engine Temp???

    Post by acme383 Tue Jun 18, 2013 8:02 am

My 66 a-100 van seems to run at about 3/4 on the gauge. It gets really hot in the engine compartment. I don't have a Belly pan on the van. I was wondering if it makes a difference. And what does the original design look like and if anyone a has made one and what did it look like?

my 68 a108 v8 ran 1/4 on the gage without the belly pan so I think you may have some other issue happening as well.  You might consider checking thermostat, a fan shroud always helps, and the factory belly pan couldnt hurt.    Ive heard people make a belly pan out of wood. sems a pretty easy task.

Take one of those cheap heat guns from harbor freight etc. and point it at one of your hoses to get a idea of your temp. Also check to see what the resistance is in the wire going to the sender, if someone unknowingly cut/spliced it through the years you will get a bad reading at the gage. If you have access to a bead roller and metal break we can send you a pic and the dimensions. There are also 2 small side plates for the belly pan.

I have read that some people's vans run hotter with the belly pan.

I think in that case most just need to recore or replace there radiators. Most think if it's not leaking it's fine, but after 40 plus years most are a little blocked
