Does any one have a source for the paint used on the slant 6 from a 64, Mine was yellow and I'd like to go with the original color. I'm having trouble finding out what it was called. Any of the off the shelf rustoleum close?

Re: Industial yellow paint, slant 6
welcome to v.v. i don't think mopar ever used yellow for the engine. altho I did paint mine yellow just to stand out. Just make sure yoy use engine paint and it's clean of oil and dirt before you paint it.

Re: Industial yellow paint, slant 6
The mopar performance part number is correct, but they discontinued the paint! Found a dealer in Calif. who has 9 cans but can't ship it because it is hazardous material. Called a body shop supply company and they need a paint number from a known paint supplier (Dupont, Ditzer, etc.) to mix it.One site said John Deere yellow was a very close match? With the paint that is left on my motor its hard to tell. I didn't think it would be this difficult, I'm not a perfectionist, but I'd like it close to the original. Its the chase that makes it fun, Right?

Ya, guess we have some of the only yellow ones left. They were /6 truck engines from 60-69. Still looking for someone else to get it from. I don't know why the guy won't ship the paint to you? Fedex and UPS do hazmat all the time with the right paperwork.

Re: Industial yellow paint, slant 6
I found a rustoleum color that is very close to the color on some of the parts I've cleaned up. Its rustoleum painters touch warm yellow #249091 .

Re: Industial yellow paint, slant 6
My mom's '61 Lancer had an aluminum block. It wasn't Yellow though. I don't know if that was a truck thing...
HeyRay, if you can't find a decent match locally, you can post the dealer info and see if there is a member locally that would be able to go buy a can or two and ship it to you.
I'd suggest getting a modern catalyzed paint for the engine if you have access to the equipment and safety gear. The engine stuff in cans is okay, but you can't beat the shine and durability of a decent single stage 2-pack. Even better if you use a catalyzed clear.

Re: Industial yellow paint, slant 6
I read long ago that engine paint is nothing special, Getting the surface prepped and clean will make the biggest difference. I've painted many engines with off the shelf paints and had no problems.
