    I have a VIN for a Ford Heavy-Duty Econoline and need to have it decoded: E16AHA19378

    She's been sitting in the snow for twenty years and the roof is caved in from snow load. How can I fix this? Jacking up on the bracing and welding square tubing as reenforcement?

    Ideas are needed.

    I'll post pictures soon.

    Nah there is push up with you feet and see how it looks. Snow has a way of just pushing it in and not causing to much damage. Fix all inner structure or add to it but it shouldnt be to hard. Post up pics and I can see more into what you need to do.

    I'll post pics next time I go there... may be next week. I got the van for $150 and it full of junk. The old owner is cleaning it out and i have a couple of weeks before the snow melts enough for me to get into my garage.

    The roof and frame members are pretty caved in... looks like there may have been some stuff on the roof that contributed. I am a good welder though, so I am hoping I can fix it.

    Just cut some 2X4s to length and use a floor jack to work it back up a little at a time. Work from the outside edges toward the middle.

    Anyone able to decode the VIN for me? I am starting to get excited even though I know I have a 2 year endeavor ahead of me.

    Got a 302 engine for her, still looking for a transmission. I would like a C-6 or a 4-speed with OD (5-speed) manual. What do I do with the column? I read about a shifting cable for AOD... does it use the column shifter already there? Even thought about a short floor shift lever from a Futura mounted to the dash, but too weird.

    Has anyone taken a modern steering column and adapted it to an old econoline? How about power steering?

    Good tip...Do this even if you decide to replace the roof.

    Get all your structure, including the sides (they may be pancaked)and the roof panel itself as straight as you can THEN remove and replace. That way your new roof will be an easier install, replacing it will save you a ton of filler and labor blocking said filler. Good luck.

    P.S. When get it closer, a piece of 4x8' 1/4" plywood between the 2x4 and the roof can help spread the load and move more metal.

    E16AHA19378

    E16 = SuperVan (extended body)
    A = 240 6-cyl engine
    H = Built at the Lorain, Ohio plant (all of them were)
    A19378 = 1967 model, built in September of 1966

    You are fortunate that you are putting a V8 in a 1967 model that came with a 240 engine.
    I know you are thinking about other transmission options, but the 302 should bolt right up to the existing bellhousing and transmission.

    You said Heavy Duty, which means it has the big rear axle that you need with a V8, and a thicker frame, which is also good to have with a V8. The Heavy Duty also has an extra leaf spring all around.

    Post the other data on the door plate, and we can tell you more about our new van.

    A four-speed transmission was available one year, so a four-speed column shift is available. Someone is sure to offer one here. The cable shift is another option.

    I won't be going back to Wasilla until next week. I took a picture of the data plate with my iPhone and I was able to get the VIN, but the rest was indecipherable. I will write the info down next time.

    Hello,

    Here's the full decode on your van.

    E16 = Econoline van series, extended body
    A = 240 engine
    H = Lorain Ohio assembly plant
    A19378 = September 1966 serial number - 1967 model
    90 = wheelbase
    L = Holly Green paint
    E162 = Econoline van model, extended body, 1 ton (heavy duty)
    3 = green standard interior
    89 = van body style
    C = 3 speed transmission
    07 = 3.00:1 heavy duty axle (9 inch)
    4930 = 1 ton GVW rating
    129 at 4000 = certified net HP at RPM
    16 = Philadelphia sales district

    I'm looking forward to seeing progress on it. Do you have any pictures showing the outside? We would like to see how the body looks.
