This may vary from van to van, but how far should the needle go beyond the last mark before I should worry about running out of gas? Razz
I know when I fill up, it goes past the full mark by quite a bit...

If its anything like my van fill up before you get to a 1/4 tank. I ran out of gas thinking I had a 1/4 tank left, haha. Luckily I was close to my house.

The sending unit may be "old" and not providing an accurate representation of fuel to the gas guage - you could replace the sending unit or just run it out of gas (with a gas can full of fuel in the back) and then you will know. LOL

The tank holds 16 gallons, so when it gets down to 1/2, see if it takes 8 gallons to fill it up,,,,,see if 1/4 takes 12 gallons, That will give you an idea on of how low you can let the gauge go before you start walking,,,,,,you kind of want to know where the gauge reads when you are down to your last 3 gallons and it's time to fill up the tank,,,,,,you don't want to run out going up Texas Street,,,,,,

Donivan, thanks for a perfect solution and answer to the same question I had.

Yet another question related to this subject:

What causes the gas gauge indicator to have float? Is it the sending unit? Trying to learn what I need to do to address these things.

For what its [ affraid worth?? my experience always has been - when a ford shows empty- you will be walking very soon - when a chev shows empty you still have about 20-30 miles to drive for fuel. Just an observation of 50 years .Im not talking about teh new ones with a fuel low warning lights =]
