by kiwimopar Sat Aug 27, 2011 7:25 pmLast time I went for a ride in my A, the speedo took a crap about 5 miles down the road. Finally extracted the cable set today, and the whole top end looked like it had unwound itself inside the housing - the internal drive that is.
After threading my old backup cable into place, I woundered about the alignment of the cable as it enters the speedo unit. The dashboard support brace is dead in line with the speedo drive, making the cable take a severe dive to the right to go to the floor. Has anyone else noticed this problem?
I guess the best solution is to bore a hole in the right place through the brace, and have the cable go more straight into the speedo.
Any thoughts appreciated - oh and my 'new' ebay speedo cable is now toast
