Well,,,,,,,JC Whitney has the stationary glass weatherstripping with the locking splines, There are places like Steele Rubber that claim to have the door weatherstripping,,,,,,

One size fits all, They are about .0625 to big on the front doors , but I used a hypodermic plunger with black silicone in it and I can't even tell.

Do you guys think I need a premolded weatherstrip for the side and rear doors? They seem pretty straight forward wonder if I need to spend $150 or just get a roll and make my own>?

Re: Window Seals and windshield seal
The left side cargo doors use a metal retainer that is built into the ends of the seal to help hold them in place. as effective as the adhesive is I dont know if you would need it ? But the repop seals are an exact fit with the corners all made, pretty easy to use. JMO

Re: Window Seals and windshield seal
Don't want to hijack the thread but Ive never pulled a windshield before...Is this something that a rookie can do without breaking it? Do you need special tools? I thought this was something that maybe an auto glass installer might have to be paid to do?
Im moving towards painting the Magic Bus and I really need to get the windshield and side door glasses out and get new seals in to make the job look good..any help greatly appreciated..

Re: Window Seals and windshield seal
IF,,,,,,,the rubber weatherstripping has not hardened up too much, just take a razor knife and cut a small patch out of the rubber starting on the glass and working outward,,,,,,you just need remove enough that is covering the glass,,,,,, just get the rubber off the glass,,,,,,,so basically you remove about a 1/2 inch of the rubber so you can push the windshield out, then pull off the weatherstrip. Now if the weatherstrips are soft, fold them down from the body on the inside and push them and the glass out

Doesnt sound too bad for the removal... How about the re install? And the side windows..not too bad?
Im just a little concerned about the windshield and cracking it..they seem to be hard to come by in the midwest..and a little expensive..?

Re: Window Seals and windshield seal
Check out pages 11 and 12 of VanAgains van,,,,,,,The whole idea is to rope a dope it over the fence,,,,,,,the softer the weatherstrip, the easier it is,,,,,,IF you can find a glass company that guarantees they can install it without breaking that old, brittle, scratched, pitted windshield, go for it.....And the side and rear windows are the same procedure,,,,,unless they have that removable locking spline on it.

Re: Window Seals and windshield seal
I took mine out of my 68 90. Just cut the rubber lip that holds the wind shield in and took my TIME! Just keep working around the windshield with a razor knife until it came out. I used a 1/4" piece of rope to put it back in and soapy water. put the new seal on the windshield first, then put the 1/4" piece of rope in the groove, then sat the bottom lip in and Slowly pulled the rope a little, pushed a little, pulled the rope a little, pushed a little, until it was in. Take your time! It was my first time too.

So you were happy with the gasket? The one you ordered is $45 half the price of restoration specialties at $85. I need to get my order in soon.
