Opportunity Knocks ! Should I Answer ? Empty Opportunity Knocks ! Should I Answer ?

Am I crazy for even thinking about this ? Just when I am starting to work all the kinks out of my Econoline along comes an offer that really is tempting. I have the opportunity to pick up an 2005 explorer (V8 )that was wreaked while on a car trailer. The drive train is intact.
The catch is I can have it only if I was going to use it in my van. I really do not want a to add work to this project but the thought of a modern drivetrain with 23,000 miles on it is very tempting.
How hard would it be to make this happen ?

Please talk me out of it

Depends on how handy you are with tools.Quite a bit of work involved I would think. But you can pretty much put anything anywhere with a Big enough HAMMER.

How much can you shorten the drive train? Will the OHC fit in the doghouse? Probably need a high pressure fuel pump. How much spare time, room and money do you have? Do you still have the no-door?

I hate when a work van takes a crap on me. Computer's, sensors, special tools, etc. That means $100/hr at the mechanic's and i feel lucky if they can fix it the first time in. I can do a lot of work on my A in my spare time.

You can start parting out the Explorer and make a bunch of cash off of it on Ebay. Smile

As tempting as it is I think I have to pass on this. The problem is I have three other car projects I really want to do after I finish the Econoline, And thats not including my unfinished house .
One other big plus is the econoline is the only one I can drive. If I start taking it apart who knows when it will get done .That happen to two of my other projects.
Until they get rid of the explorer I will always be tempted but I need to stay focused.
    Thanks guys

Good choice. You don't need all that crap and you don't need the headaches involved in doing the swap.
