Side/rear door latch rods R&I? Empty Side/rear door latch rods R&I?

Post by RodStRace Fri Mar 05, 2010 1:09 pm

I've looked in the manual and it doesn't explain how to take these out.
    Any hints, tips, tricks?
I'd rather not blast and paint these in place, but obviously don't want to ruin them by removing them wrong either.
    Question
One is missing the clip to the latch, but it still stays in the door when it's detached from the latch.

Oh boy, You will make up new words taking them out! If they work leave them alone (my motto) . My arms are to big to get in there and work on them. Need skinny arms I cant remember if it requires 2 people or not. I watched a friend work on his years ago.

Is it the retainer? How does it come out?

They could have these clips on them,,,,,you just got to get mean and pop it off the ball stud,,,,,,now if someone put a another type on there,,,,,you might be able to undo the latch and move everything out a little to get a closer look at it it

yes, that part is fairly easy to understand. Pop all those off and unscrew to remove the latch. The rods are the part I can't figure out.
You have the bolt ( part that catches the plate bolted to the body) and the spring on the rod. When disconnected from the link on the latch, they spring into the door (open position). they do not pull out, and I think it's due to the retainer. All names are from the diagram I showed.
That Chevy one is a little different, but not enough to worry about.
I'll have to look at the bottoms a lot closer, to see if it makes sense. The tops are completely hidden by the window frame.
I've got to get the Diesel truck starter fixed today, so may be after that.
