I bought the cast bezels off Ebay from Gotavan. They needed a fair bit of polishing but will look nice when I get to the point of installation. I have a pair of those truck ones too, they look like they need some modification to work.

I see what Savage did,,,,,,there are 3 sections on those pick up bezels,,,,,,and he removed the lower section at least,,,,,we can try that,,,,,,basically cutting away all material that stops it from fitting into the van housing.......

Savage and Chester, Very Nice both of you! Really dresses up the taillights!! Don, tell Rich you have to cut them in place so that you can accurately cut out the metal you don't need. Just tell him the taillight will cover up any boo-boos!LOL

That's the one, Scott. I'll take two, thanks!
Yeah, the whole thing mounts on top of the lens, not behind it like the truck ones. I'll probably try trimming what I got like Savage did and I'll try fitting it on a spare quarter panel I've got (with less coats of paint on it).
Savage, I'd like to see yours mounted on the van. I like that it wouldn't cover any of the lens but it seems to me there'd be a gap between the lens and the trim.

Don and Meyer (LeftCoast) came over on Sunday. We evaluated a couple other types of power window mechanisms I picked up the day before from Pik-A-Part. The one from an Astro Van is the traditional style, similar to what all old GMs had, but it would take quite a bit of re-engineering to get it to fit in our doors.
This one shows promise, from a 97 Mercury Villager GS minivan. Not riveted in, which makes junkyard removal easier. It's similar to the Plymouth Voyager ones but not as bulky at the top where I was having trouble fitting it in the top of the door. Here's how it would line up. Only trouble is we have to do some cutting on the door to raise up the depressed area highlighted in magenta. More info to come.

I saw Don take a photo of the three 65 Chevy vans there, but we were hoping for five. The two Scotts couldn't make it this time.
Meyer stuck around and we found something to put on my van that would be easy and look sharp: the two new front parking lights/blinkers from Brothers. But we found those were not quite plug-and-play. I bought the whole assembly (chrome light and orange bezel) that they make for Chevy pickups that are identical to ours but don't have that same goofy connector like on our harness. I'll have to splice the wires. No big deal but another day. Instead I started putting away all the van parts I'd pulled out into the driveway for show-and-tell.
Today at lunch I bought some hardware for the power window installation.

So I see the photo of Donivan65 pulling VANagain and I wonder if one call pull an automatic in neutral or do you have to take the driveshaft out? Thanks - hate being clueless, but would rather ask than screw something up fer sure.

Look in your books if you got them,,,,,but over 30 mph, you disconnect the driveshaft on an automatic,,,,,,,

Sunday Leftcoast came over and helped me attach the rubber around my pop-out windows. I was nervous about getting this black 3M (08011) goop on my nice white paint! We put that low-tack painters tape around the window openings just in case. Some black oozed out from the rubber here and there and we were able to remove it with WD-40 without affecting the paint.
Next, to screw on the pop-out windows to see how they fit. I used a bit more rubber than was taken out because I was really making sure it was pushed into the corners but now I'm thinking the corners should have maybe been rounder to seal against the window frame. We'll find out...

Five 65s on the Fourth
We had a great time today! We had good food, many van stories were told, and a little work even got done on my van.
That's LeftCoast, Drew, Donivan, SurfingGuy, and VANagain. Click photos to see larger versions.
Don's new towbar design is super clever! Don't even have to remove the bumper, uses existing holes, won't touch the paint!

Is it just my eyes playing tricks on me or does Drew have wider taillights than the rest? Did the first gens come with different size taillights?
