Need a Engine.... Empty Need a Engine....

Post by DanTheVanMan Mon Mar 09, 2020 1:09 pm

Well folks, literally just a few miles after the 65 Sportvan rolled over 1/2 a million miles I decided to reward her with a "new" carb (an actual Real NEW Carb , not a reman)...  Guessing is was just to much for the o'l gal because just a few miles down the road on the test run she choked, coughed and puked all over herself and she died a slow and horrible death as she limped home!
Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Sooooo, Anyone even remotely close to the Florida/Georgia line just happen to have a good Chevy 250? scratch

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Sorry to hear it..

Every time I put in the extra time and money to make my car, truck, or van better..  Something expensive or time consuming happens to that one right after..

One step forward, two steps back.

Wish I were closer, I love to help you with it.

    So, whats your plan now?

Scott, Just  going to pull the engine. Search Craigslist & Facebook Marketplace and be patient I guess. This has always been my preferred daily driver. Having the the 250 & Powerglide, it is the best pair for just running around with so want to stay with it. One will show up sooner or later. I have 3 jeeps and a motorcycle until then.... Hopefully it's not too long. Sad Sad

    Good news everyone!
Got lucky and found a good running low milage (after rebuild) mid 70's 250 about an hours drive from the house... Went and got it just hours before they started the "Non Essential" travel ban... So ordered the seal & gasket kit and the cleaning up begins! I guess if you're going to be stuck at home...... Better have a project you enjoy to work on!  cheers

This one apparently came out of a ratrod of some sorts. They decided to go with a V8. According to the seller, it was rebuilt and has approx. 6-7K since then. Comp on all Cylinders is 128-130 psi. Has a HEI on it but looks as if they laid it on that side and slightly bent it. No biggie, I have a few extra in the shop. Other than that it runs strong and sound much throatier than any other I have had over the years. So the gasket kit should arrive tomorrow so today I'm just going to pull the cover and fire it up on the stand for about a minute to ensure it's getting good oil flow through the rods and then just start cleaning/degreasing it and get it ready for paint...

Good deal ! I'd bet it would be tough finding a 6 banger around here after the scrappers raided everything.
