    Hi Guys

My 'project' is coming along nicely but when check my brakes as part of a service, I found some endfloat in the passenger side halfshaft - I would guess it to be be about .01".

Any suggestions as to most likely cause (and fix) - I have to order parts way in advance as they take ages to get here (UK) and shipping is expensive so I'd like to get the 'most likely' culprits (C clip, bearing?).

    Thanks as always...

there are several items that will wear and increase the end play in the
axles of these vans, there is the grove in the end of the axle, the c clip,
the side gear, and the side gear washer, and lastly the differential housing,
not the axle housing, the part the ring gear bolts to. all of these parts have
surfaces which will wear over time that will increase the end play of the axle.
the axle bearing has no effect on the end play of the axle on c clip rear ends.
I have seed as much as .100 end play in the axle. Never worried about how
much was there, some where there is a max limit to the end play, but I don`t think
.010 as you have is the limit. just checked for gm 10 and 12 bolt rear ends the end play
    should be between .010 and.035

Thanks Panelman - it may not be outside tolerance then (I'll try to measure a bit more accurately).
