Now I'm working on transport to get it from Phoenix to southern Missouri. Super excited. I've had plenty of old VW buses, figured it was time to try out the American versions!

It runs, shifts, and stops... supposedly. I guess I'll dig in when it gets here. I've got a lot to learn!

Interior is completely gutted, but that's right up my alley. I'm a diy kind of guy.

well well, what do you know. I went to youtube and was looking for traveco campers and found this video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4TD_-WkrZE&

I haven't gotten a chance to compare VIN numbers yet, but from the video, I think this is the same van! some of the scratches and rust are identical, as well as that random wood block on the wall. There's even a thread here on it.

    https://vintage-vans.forumotion.com/t36197-getting-ready-to-purchase-my-first-van-dodge-a-100-conversion#165581

I'd love to get more info on this vehicles history. Looks like it was a non-op in California which shouldn't be a problem.

Well I flew down to Arizona, rented a truck and trailer and hauled this baby home!

1968 A108 high top - new to old dodges 40394210
1968 A108 high top - new to old dodges 40370110

It was a bit of a mess getting it out. The owner claimed it drove and shifted and he'd have it ready to pull on the trailer when we got there. He hoarder and had it buried pretty well when we arrived... It didn't want to start and after we got it started, the transmission was too low on fluid to shift, but worked once we filled it up.

Loaded it up and pulled it to Missouri

Now that I've got a chance to look around and take inventory, I see that it has had someone fixing things. There's a new fuel sender, master cylinder. Lots of electrical that needs sorted out.

I've ordered my chiltons. Should be here this weekend so I can start figuring out the electrical issues.

the rest of the dog house is there, as is the dash. The dash looks like I'll need all new guts though. I have the driver's seat but no others. That's fine, I'll be doing a custom interior.

How about an update! I've done a bunch of surface rust fixing. painted the dash, doghouse, and front floor.

I've begun to figure out the wiring mess that the previous owner left behind. Tons of cut wires that I'm still trying to figure out. Took me forever but I found the wire bundle going to the rear was severed in the A-pillar. I ran new wires for that stretch and now I have tail lights!

now I need to sort out turn signals and brake lights, then seats and a dash cluster and it is ready to license!

You’re picking away at it and the dashboard looks Great! Wiring is always a challenge but it sounds like you’re getting it under control...All your hard work will pay off once it’s licensed again! You’re keeping another vintage van on the road...Thanks for the update...we really appreciate that!

I tackled mounting a seat in it this weekend. Everything went pretty smooth and it worked out so now I need to do the same for the passenger side.

I also ordered a brand new carb, installed a pertronix ignition and adjusted the timing. She's purring now. The old carb is a bit crusty but it is working for now.

Unfortunately I found that the transmission is shot. It goes in reverse strong but forwards it just barely scoots, no matter how high you rev the engine. I checked the fluid and it has enough, but it just isn't going forward. Guess it needs a new one!

I need bumpers for sure. Still deciding what I'm going to do with the dash cluster (original or something new). I'll also need a passenger seat. Got any of those things?

Had it hauled to a transmission shop monday. looking forward to getting it back. If I decide to register as a historic vehicle, it is ready to go! Still trying to decide if I want to do that or a normal registration.

    just a quick update:

--DROVE it home from the transmission shop. That rocked but it wasn't running right for sure. Little to no power.

-- fought with timing. Book says to go 5 ATDC, but engine really wants to run better at about 10 BTDC. I have a horrible dead spot when I first hit the gas now though. Found my vacuum advance isn't really moving, will revisit timing when my new distributor arrives.

-- had crazy flooding/starving issues. Turns out my carb was flooding it and my gasa tank needed cleaned as it kept clogging. I dropped a new carb on it and cleaned the tank.

-- i've hacked in 3 point seatbelts and I'm almost ready to start building an interior!

despite the issues I've had the ability to drive this thing several times to a local hardware store. I really like it!

I'm happy to hear that you're not discouraged easily when things don't go smoothly...Once you've got those issues resolved, it makes it so Worth all the Effort! Like you said, the little things like driving it to do errands and going to the local Hardware store and the feeling of being behind the wheel of one of these gems is the payoff!!!
Wait until you get people telling you all their stories of owning or riding in one when they were younger...Makes all the hard work that much more rewarding. Take your time and make it yours. Can't wait to see what you do with the interior.

Once again, thanks for the updates! You're in Great company here on this site, we all share your passion.

What a Face  cheers  cheers  cheers

    quick update:
    - installed new distributor, wires, and plugs. Went with one of those fancy HV distributors just because it looked neat. I still have a stall as I push the pedal. If I just accell slow, I can live with it.

it has been too damn rainy/cold and icy to put any more door seals/work on interior. I have leaks that are driving me nuts. Those windows in the high top are a nightmare. I'm thinking I'll go to an RV shop and see if there's something more modern that doesn't funnel water into the interior.

I did get a chance to do something fun. I 3d scanned it.
