Does Lokar make a throttle cable set-up for us ?  I would love to eliminate the factory rod set up.

Nobady makes anything for these things. You gotta fabricate, modify, improvise. Best bet is to use a bellcrank, a couple of cable brackets, and a push/pull cable. All improvised, with lots of fabrication.😞 With my V8 swap, I gutted everything throttle related, sourced a new pedal, bellcrank, made cable mounting brackets, made some throttle rod guides, bent the old slant six rod to reuse it along with a Lokar cable, to hook it all up. Wouldn't want to have to do it again!

    SPEAKING OF LOKAR Empty Lokar

Post by BADBADGER Sun Apr 29, 2018 11:52 am

My 67 A100 has the 318 with Edelbrock performer intake and Edelbrock carb. The entire throttle assembly including the gas pedal, trans kickdown is all  Lokar. It works really well. But the total cost is expensive. Currently working on a 65 Ranchero with 289 and 4 speed. Am using the same system minus the kickdown part.

Post by jkr Mon Apr 30, 2018 2:51 pm

well I went through this situation myself a few years back. I had all original stuff too!!!!. but after adding new and thicker insulation to the doghouse mine was hitting and affecting both shift quality and wide open throttle. after obtaining a lot, and I mean a lot of different combinations I found a setup that works perfectly.
1968-69 dodge dart, 273 or 318 and auto trans have a setup that uses two bellcranks to make close quarters for rods work. the first one is at the back of the intake and converts linear action (back and forth) to downward motion where it hooks into the second bellcrank to convert it back to linear action. now understand most darts of that vintage use 904 transmissions so be advised you will need to swap out the lever at your trans and make sure it is for a 727. they look the same but they are actually a different length and that affects the geometry. ASK ME, I KNOW. some minor adjusting and it should work very well. most of you swap to a 4bbl any way so the linkage from the carb to the first bellcrank is cut to length with an adjuster sleeve as you will need one if not two places for minor adjustments. let the searching begin....

Pegasus Auto Racing can make you a throttle cable to order. I got one for my '65 and just have a clamp bracket on the intake behind the carb linkage to hold the end of it.

I called Lokar for a cable solution after I bought the shifter, the guy told me they didn't make anything that would work for the van, and that my shifter would not work either.

But, since the shifter was made for the transmission I was using I knew I could do it. So I ended up buying boat shifter cable. You can order them as long as you need, and they are flexable, but very ridged.

    Works good for me.

BADBADGER... I am going to be running the same setup as you are running. I have all the pieces that you listed. I was laying out where the pedal will go and it looks like it will fit with no interference issues. I was wondering why you needed the spacer?

    Thanks... Keith D

it looks like it is going to work out good. It is typical Lokar stuff, very good quality at a very high price.

Back to Keith D. I used the pedal spacer for a bit of extra heigth on the pedal. I have extra padding under the front carpet, so it worked abit better for me. Personal preference really!

I modified the floor board for the Lokar pedal, it will work out good.

I have about two weeks worth of work to do on the van then I will have it towed to American Stripping to get it media blasted and epoxy primed, can't wait.

BTW... I saw your listing for the belly pan support panel. I have a belly pan that I got with the van but I have not mounted it. I don't have a support panel that I can see, where does this go? Do all the vans have them? Mine is a 1967 108.

There should be a support panel on the driver and passenger side. I only have the passenger side panel.

Is there any way to retain the original gas pedal and throttle linkage when installing a 4bbl carb with the Lokar kick down cable?

Man I'm glad this came up. I've been needed to do this conversion myself and you've saved me a lot of trouble trying to figure out what pedal works. Thanks!

I found this one on Ebay and bought it. Seems like a great deal for $55

I mocked it up then I removed it, I stripped everything out of the van as I am taking it soon to get it media blasted.

It will be a while before I get it painted and start putting everything back together.
