Choke cable and bracket

Post by EconoRedman on Mon Oct 16, 2017 10:21 am

Hi guys,

My mechanic in Ohio is telling me that I am having a high idle problem because my choke cable and bracker are worn out. I have a 67 Econoline Van with the choke on the doghouse, and the 240 engine with original single barrel carb. Does anyone know where I can get the cable and bracket, or know of a suitable substitute please ?

Thanks In Advance

I have a complete cable from a 67. Don't have the bracket anymore I think. Will have to check.

How do you wear out a bracket?

,,,,,,are we just talking about something to keep the end of the cable from moving so the knob can do its job?

I'm really struggling to see how a bad choke cable and mounting bracket would cause a high idle. Makes no sense to me...

,,,it would,,,,,,as you pull the choke cable out it closes the butterfly and raises the idle at the same time,,,,,,if the cable dont push the choke lever back all the way because it is loose, the choke dont open all the way and the carb dont go back to idle condition,,,,,

That cable bracket can get deformed but is easily reshaped to fit snugly on the cable housing again .. If the cable slipped in the bracket it could cause a high idle .. I am the king of throttle problems having "engineered" one from scratch when I put the v8 in the 62 ... I had high idle, low idle, no idle .. too much peddle, not enough .. I did find the choke was just a little closed causing intermittent high speed idle when it decided to ride high on the idle cam then after getting everything adjusted no idle at all ... Frustrating but always go for the easiest solution first ..
