Leaking Fuel Pump Empty Leaking Fuel Pump

Post by Marq Tue Sep 19, 2017 8:57 am

Recently replaced the fuel pump on my 170 due to oil spraying from weep hole ON TOP of the pump onto surrounding sheet metal & brake lines on drivers side. No idea how old this pump was.

New (rebuilt) pump worked for 30 days/50 miles then it started to leak similar.

Guys at auto parts store have nothing to comment, everything I have read states when it leaks out the weep holes a seal or diaphragm is bad.

I wish I had taken the first one apart to see what is in the top of the pump body in relation to the weep hole to confirm.

Did I just get a bad part or is there something more going on?

Only thing I can think of is you might check that your PCV system is working properly.

Not sure why it went bad so quick but think I found the issue.

At the top of the pump there is a seal to the diaphragm shaft.

On the new pump there is vacuum out of the weep hole so it is clearly sealed from the rest of the pump and crank so that gave way.

Hopefully this one will last longer.

Not sure about everybody else but my engine only has a breather cap off of valve cover, no PCV!

No PCV, you might want to pull your road draft tube then, drivers side front of block, and make sure it isn't plugged up with crap.
