i'm seeing that it can be done but would like a little more info. is it as easy as bolting up the axles on your springs? do you use the trucks springs? what about the transfer case. and tranny.

I've heard that most conversions use Jeep axles and a Jeep T-case, but I don't really know much on them.

DOH! that makes sense i'm thinking in the little world of ford and forgot that the older jeeps use all round leafs! and with a tiny wheel base on the donor the tranny, t-case length isn't as large a problem. i can never seem to find someone whose actually done the swap to tell me so i might have to wing it from there.

I'd look into the wheelbase of the wrangler and peek underneath to see what might fit. They still make 'em with Dana 44 axles I believe and some even have lockers. The aftermarket makes tons of Jeep axles, too. If you dig into it, good luck and take lots of pictures! Very Happy

This was my 61 pickup I did using 68 Bronco axles and transfercase/transmission. I used the original Econoline front leaf springs and welded spring perches and shock mounts to the Bronco front axle. The transmission/transfer case bolted to my original engine and I used a 65-67 Econoline engine crossmember to mount it. I had the driveshafts custom made. I moved the original rear leaf springs inwards to the frame rails and bolted the rear axle from the Bronco in and added shock mounts to it. I used another set of Econoline rear wheels wells to widen the rear wheel wells. I had a steering arm made from the original Econoline one welded to the Bronco one. This was done by a place that specialized in welding cast and forged metal.

If anyone is interested?????? I still have a reverse cut Dana 44, I had put in a 67 super,,, until he rolled it,, axle is an eight lug, still have it???????? Modified the spring perch mount, and sat on our stock spring dimensions,, meaning it had extra leafs, and extra arch, but other wise stock frame setup.

Here's more photos. It was rough but free. I had a lot of time and a couple of parts trucks with good body panels. The blue panels were from a Falcon van so I had to build the inner supports for the quarter panels. The passenger side was from a 3 window pickup. The truck only took 3 weeks to complete. I wasn't going to paint it but it was only a few extra days of work to get it done and the paint was free. I owned the truck for 18 years and had to scrap it when it finally rusted beyond repair. I used it mostly in the winter when I lived in Ithaca NY and on the beach when I moved back to Rhode Island. It saw a lot of salt and damp weather!

I believe Duke Spangler in Wisconsin still has his very nice 67 4x4 van for sale. It uses Jeep Cherokee axles and Bronco transfer case mated to a 302. Its one sweet setup. Duke did an excellent job, very custom stuff.
