Doghouse Battery Cable Grommet

Post by Marq on Wed Jul 05, 2017 12:54 pm

Pretty sure this is the item, the grommet that the battery cables pass through into the doghouse.

Installing new cables and this doesnt resemble rubber any more, doubt this will flex.

Anybody seen a replacement?

If nothing I may just cut in half and RTV back together!

I wouldn't mind having a new one myself. Mine is getting pretty dry and rotted.

Jumping on this old thread. Anyone ever find the right grom? I'm looking for the same part to no avail, even with the part number provided.

Thank you in advance.

Right after I reinstalled my new battery cables using the old dried up, but with added RTV, I found some soft rubber sheets that were 1" thick that would have been perfect to make a new one!

Oh well, the next owner can address that improvement!

Got it. Thank you for the quick response. I, as you did, want to swap out the old cables. Not surprisingly, one project begets many. Getting that grommet housing off looks like a small feat, then to find the rubber grommet! Looks tapered so was going to get the dimensions once I can remove it and order a solid grom (like from he link below) and drill a few holes. We'll see. Thanks again for your feedback.

There are similar grommets and brackets on ebay: Grommet & Retainer

Here's a picture from the Econoline exploded diagrams. Note the part number for the retainer is 14608, and the retainer in the Ebay sale is 8A-14608. The Ebay grommet only has one hole, but easy enough to drill another.

I haven't used this particular setup, but folks on the 61-67 Econolines facebook page said it works.

I wanted to follow up regarding the grommet and housing. Took a while to put things all together but the part on ebay was a fit. I've attached pics of the old and new part for anyone tackling the same in the future. Thank you again for directing me to the right direction, jdlaugh.
