D&D brakes don't fit my 14" wheels... Empty D&D brakes don't fit my 14" wheels...

This may have been discussed before, but thought I would post up my experience. My 14" wheels aren't fitting over the D&D Brake kit I've installed. There's an inside lip on the wheel that hits the caliper. I'm pretty sure they are the original wheels. I have another 14" wheel that doesn't have the same interior lip and it fits fine. Diameter to the lip on the "stock" wheel is just over 12 inches, while the other diameter is a good 13" +. Sadly, I put new rubber on these wheels not too long ago. Nothing is easy...

The white scrape marks are the edge of the lip:

Mustang wheel center is about 1 1/2" bigger in diameter, enough to clear the caliper:

My old wheel left a rusty mark on the caliper where it hits. Clearly not going to work:

So, long story short, measure your wheels before you order this kit. I guess new wheels are in my future...

Can you grind the caliper down a bit or is it just to big of a difference?

That's not a disc brake style wheel. It's a drum brake wheel. If you swap to the latter 14 inch wheel it should work fine.

Easier said than done and if buying new you might as well buy 15", unless the rubber is really important.

I found a pair of 14" Ford steelies that were a good match, accept my hubcaps and fit over the calipers. The only real difference is the original Econolines have a solid face, while the new ones have vents on the perimeter. So, not a big deal. I've got new tires, so going to 15s wasn't a great option.

Anyone have a link for 15' wheels for disk brakes that'll fit the poverty dog 9.5' hubcaps? Thanks in advance if you do.

Afaik, all the 15's and most, if not all, 14's only fit the 10 1/8" dog dishes.

Is there a huge difference when converting to discs in the front? My wife weighs about 105lbs and keeps complaining about having to stand on the brakes to stop her 62 with OEM drums on all 4 corners..
