I'm looking to see who has for sale a 250 straight 6 3 speed on tree engine, or rebuilt engine. Starter, Alternator. I want to get my van running, and don't want to go through the engine in it? The valve covers have been off for 20+ years, and the starter is off and not really sure why? So thinking it might be easier and cheaper to replace the engine? Any suggestions? I'm in Arizona.
can ship if we know the engine runs and low miles.

    Help me please, flower sunny

you ought to see what you got,,,,,,,if the engine is not locked up, you can get a starter,,,,,,,,and they would probably let you use a compression tester,,,,,,is the gas tank OK?

I am just saying get it running,,,,,,,see what you got,,,,,,,1st thing, see what the compression is,,,,,,thats a big clue to the condition of the engine,,,,,maybe it shows  a bad  $16 head gasket,,,,,see if you got spark at the spark plugs,,,,,,,,if you do,,,,,,,spray some carb cleaner down the carb,,,,,,see if the engine starts for a second,,,,,,,,,THEN,,,,,,,make sure you got some oil in the engine and  hook up some gas to the fuel pump to see if it pumps gas to the carb and it dont flood out and run the engine to see if  it knocks or smokes,,,,,,,,,then you will know what you got and which way to go,,,,,,,,,all this is not too hard to do,,, if,,,,, you take it 1 step at a time,,,,,AND,,,,we can help you and explain each step,,,,,,,this is what I would do,,,,,,,

If it hasn't been running for 20 years a compression test probably won't be valid. You'll need to get it running, get some miles on it, then do the test.

Looking for G10 250 straight 6 3 speed on tree engine Empty replacing a 2nd gen engine...

A 69 G10! I have one too! If you do need an engine, there are a few good things to understand. It doesn't have to be quite as specific as you are asking. Any similar vintage 250 will work, assuming you have all the van & MT specific parts.

    And you have other options!

These vans (67-69 1/2) came with a small block 283 & 307 as an engine option. Supposedly some of the 69 1/2s or 70 model year forward control vans had 350 engines but that's hear-say to me. I've never actually seen one. Mine (the latest in a line of 3 I've owned) was a factory 307 MT combo. It now has a 70 C20 350. While there are a few things to adapt from inline 6 to 8 (like throttle linkage, improving braking and cooling to work out) the engine itself is a simple drop-in. Any 1st generation small block (1955-~1998) can be used from 262-400! There are some gotchas with some like the 400 (external balanced) but all will bolt right in and will mate to the existing transmission.

Chevy was great about this back in the day!

The engine cover is the same on these vans regardless of the engine it was born with. Take the tower mounts off the 6, discard the tall steel part and bolt the rubber mounts to the 8. The 10" clutch is small for serious power but holds up well on mild engines with street tires as does the trans and rear axle. For what it's worth, I performed this swap on my first van (a rusted out 69) with the help of my friends. It was deep winter. I rented a hoist for the weekend and used basic hand tools. This was when I was 20 years old. I did it again on my second van (a not rusty 67) in my late 20's

It makes a tremendous difference in power and of course sound. cheers

The V8 specific parts that I think would be challenging to find are the throttle bell-crank, the upper rad mount for the cross-flow radiator and the brass expansion tank. But all these can be solved pretty easily.

Good luck with your project. I plan on having mine at the Roadkill Ziptie Drags in Tucson next weekend Jan 19th & 20th

    Dave
