Howdy. Just bought this beauty a couple months ago. Thought I'd share.

So far I've installed lap belts for the dinette seats. Next project is to install 3-point harnesses for front seats and redo the dog house insulation. Going to redo the tint on the back windows. Got a custom cover from California Car Covers for it to keep it looking nice.

Great looking camper! Hope you enjoy it to the max. That A/C unit will feel fantastic as you cruise around sitting next to the doghouse. Congrats on the Great Score!!!

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Paid $16.5k, which was less than the $19k he was asking. Still more than I wanted to pay, but you only live once right? $1200 to ship it the 2000 miles from Iowa to CA on an open transport. Purportedly 43k original miles, which seems like it is correct given the minimal wear and tear seen inside and out. It has a 225 c.i. slant 6. I installed seat belts for the two rear bench seats so the kids would be safe. Am reinforcing the bench seats to the floor too with multiple strong brackets.

The California Car cover for it was just over $500 shipped. It was customized to accommodate the roof mounted AC unit. Again, more than I wanted to pay for a car cover, but it fits perfectly and is high quality. I went with a less expensive one from Beverly Hills Car Cover initially, but it didn't even come close to fitting right. Covered only the top half of the van.

Wow, I think you spent your money well. What a clean classic van! Does that air conditioner freeze the front area it looks like aheavy duty cooler!! I wish my van had air... that cover, very nice as well. You gotta take care of that investment!

Thanks for the kind words. The AC does not blow cold (yet). I'm hoping it only needs a recharge, but we'll see.

Funny thing is the original cost in 1964/1965 for the whole camper conversion was $735, and the Fleet Air AC unit was $500 alone! Guess that's why you don't see a lot of them.

Thanks. Definitely has some flaws but is very nice for an unrestored survivor.

If you ever get around to exchanging your front lap belts with a three point harness, let me know. I would like to purchase your old lap belts.

At work right now, but I believe they're P235/70R15. The fronts rub a bit if you turn too far to either side though. Not really an issue most times.
