Engine running on or "Dieseling" when shutting off?

Post by cole63 on Wed Aug 03, 2016 4:21 pm

I have a fresh 300 with a 240 head that I've recently got going. The engine starts and runs fine, but when I go to kill the engine it wants to continue to run on. I have checked the ignition switch and power to coil. (no power with switch off) I adjusted timing and carb, but still happens when it is hot. Just trying to get some ideas on what to try next? Thanks, Cole.

id recheck timing, a retarded situation caused my 250 chevy to do the same...although there was also a noticable loss in power and the engine ran hot as well..

I almost forgot I had made this post a while back. I solved my issue by lowering my idle speed. I also had the accelerator cable too tight and it wouldn't idle back down after letting off the gas.
