I have a 1965 Chevy sportsman i bought and it came with a 250 i6 and 3 speed tranny both uninstalled in the van. Im trying to get the motor in but the drivers side mount is on a steeper angle than the perch below it to where there is no way i can bolt it up. The passenger side bolts with no problems. Could use some advice. Thanks!

Re: Motor mount troubles
If this was a project van, I am curious if they installed the engine cross member in backwards?
Or perhaps the wrong one.
The top one is a 1st gen X-member. Pic is in the facing forward position.
The back and rear one is for a 2nd gen Van.
There may be a difference in the mounts that bolt to the blocks also on the 6's . But someone else will have to come up with pics for those.
Good luck and keep it fun.

Re: Motor mount troubles
Are you sure it's a 250? I read somewhere that the 294 had a different mounting point on 1 side. I put a 250 in place of the 230 I had using the 230 mounts with no problem.

Re: Motor mount troubles
I think you have the cross member in backwards. The perches have to "lean" forward.

Re: Motor mount troubles
Loosten the passenger mount bolt half way. with your cherry picker lift the engine just enough so it's off of the right mount. Put a short drift punch up through the perch into the mount bolt hole to line the holes up. slowly lower the engine jigling it as it comes down and try to keep the punch straight as the engine mount comes down on the drivers side perch. You may have to do this over a few times. Some engines drop right in and other times you have to restle with them. Installing an engine can be a one man job but its better to have an extra pair of hands to help.
