What holds up the doghouse?.......

Post by Eds-68-Chevy on Thu Mar 24, 2016 9:57 am

Anybody have any pictures of what holds the doghouse up?. I've never seen or had one in my 1968 GMC Handi Van. I've been using a baseball bat for the past 20 years but I'd really like to buy one or make one my self.
Thanks

prop rod that is bolted to the pass side of the lid and it slides in a track on the pass side of the
doghouse just below the sealing lip

Cool thanks! I still have the track on the pass side and the bolt on the dog house. I guess I'm only missing the prop rod. Anyone have a pic of the prop rod it self? and maybe the measurements?. It can't be that hard to make one.

Another option would be hydraulic hood or hatch struts. They're available in different lengths & weight rating. We used the marine version on boat hatches.

Ask around, some one must have a rod off a parts van, I found an original chain for my 1st Gen lid, but the 2nd gen used the rod.

I just made one out of some threaded rod, a bolt, some nuts, and washers. Didn't cost me anything. I had this stuff laying around. Works great! I'll probably replace it when I find a stock one.

Here is a simple idea..... Have a strap with a couple of snap hooks to strap the lid to the ceiling
