Throttle Cable Conversion..???? Empty Throttle Cable Conversion..????

Post by Joe Van Mon Feb 25, 2013 8:39 am

Well got the van on the road Friday could not wait for a TRUCKIN so I took it to a local car show Saturday and got quite a few I use have or my parents had a early van and a hole lot of people looking at it. 100 cars showed up and I drove away with a trophy 1st show  a reward for spending 2 month's on the floor in my garage. One of my friends brought his new toy A early 60's dodge A 100 flat glass pick up with A built 360 I told him all about the web site. NOW for the question has any body goten rid of the gas pedal linkage and converted it to a cable my pedal is stiff and rubs on the top of the master and will not fully open the 4 barrels can I use the stock pedal and make A bracket or do I have to buy a after market pedal like A LOCAR floor mount to use a cable????

many diff sellers of the "lokar"type units=i have 2 lokar throttles & cables in some of my cars -really like them too- Yet as the cables are =twisted steel/stainless small cables= ive found that where they secure into the actual throttle areas - you need to solder them as to not allow the set screw attach areas to fray & eventually break in use /time . cheers

I converted my G20-108 to cable throttle 37 years ago.
I used a third gen cable. Made a simple bracket at the
carb and a reversing linkage down at the peddle. If
anyone is interested I can try to post a picture.

Comstock, I'd like to see some pics of the set up at the pedal. been kicking something like that around or rigging up a cross shaft like a ford in the tunnel. I hacked in a Fiero set up on my 65 but it aint pretty at the pedal.

Weather permitting I'll take pictures tomorrow .
I'm up at 6200 feet on the Comstock, so weather
is always question mark. Oh every time I take the
old girl down to sea level I scare myself and whoever
    is with me!

I just put a throttle cable in mine. I used a similar idea but I was able to repurpose some of the removed stock linkage.

    Thanks Joe!

That horizontal bracket is just a piece of flat stock, then I drilled a large enough hole to mount that arm on it. That arm is the one that the original throttle rod normally connects to on the inside of the doghouse. I just re-used the pin and C clip.

I used quick connect heim/rod end joints I ordered from McMaster Carr. They come in handy when adjusting all this stuff. The bracket the cable goes through was just something I had lying around...I may make a new one out of thicker material as this one flexes a tiny bit.

Still working on the bracket at the carb. It's going to bolt to that hole in the intake manifold.

Oh and doing it this way, I was able to get away with using a 60" cable. I bought a lokar one and am very happy with the quality.

Here's my setup... I didn't want a lot of moving parts so I tried to keep it simple. Made a whole new bracket with brass bushings, new rod, kept the origional pedal and there it is....

This is on a 2nd gen.... Because of the tunnel I had room to do it this way.
