I know we can get these cut by a glass shop, but what is a reasonable cost? Definitely want to replace mine since I'm going to the trouble to paint and mine looks pretty old.

Just want to make sure I'm getting a fair price.

That seems cheap. I hope I can get one for that. Definitely new seals. My current one leaks a bit because it doesn't quite meet in the middle, just above the rear view mirror. Otherwise, it might be salvageable.

I called the biggest auto glass shop in town and, of course, no luck.  She can't find it in her computer.  I asked if she could just make a template off my old glass and have a company produce auto quality glass.  She essentially said "no" because she just said that she orders from vendors.  Suggested I give her the vin?

She read off the list of Chevy vehicles they could get glass for from '64:  Nova, Chevelle, etc etc but no vans other than Corvan.

I thought this was suppossed to be easy since anyone could cut flat glass?  Are you guys just using regular, non automotive glass?

Edited: No intention of using non-automotive glass.

That's a scary thought, I cringed when I read that. Besides being illegal it would dangerous as hell. Please don't do that. You need that thin layer of plastic to keep everyone involved in an accident from being cut to pieces.

A REAL glass shop cuts out the shape of your glass from a piece of Laminated glass,,,,,,it comes in clear, shaded or tinted colors,,,,,,,you need to bring them your old glass or make a cardboard template from it,,,,,,,

    Thanks, Don and et. al.

There is a glass shop 20 feet from the door of my restorer. I asked him about cutting me glass and he said he didn't do automotive. I thought anyone could cut it as you mentioned.

I will just have to check another place that keeps laminated glass.

Call another shop. If they don't cut glass, ask who does. Not every shop is willing to do this anymore.

The guys at the body shop that I have my van at broke up my windshield and threw it away before I had a chance to tell them to make a template. Luckily the local auto glass shop had a cardboard template and they cut the windshield (tinted) for $250 installed . A little pricey but I got it done.

    Thanks, GMman.

What tint did you use in terms of percentage? I would like a mild tint that cuts down some UV and heat but I don't want that line at the top with the heavier percentage and probably no color added.

It is a mild blue/green tint, no heavy tint on the top. I guess it's like the average factory style tint.

I had to pay extra for the windshield seal. it's the same rubber seal used on the 1966 Chevy Pickup.
