rewiring the van

My research shows all of the rewiring kits Painless,Centech or Rebel all have to splice into the original destinations. I have a 67 short van. My question is will the work required to rewire the van be worth it seeing as I will be using the last few inches of the original system anyway?I have fuses in my system now.Thanks in advance guys(or girls).

not sure about centech or rebel. but ive wired with painless, and I sell ez wire kits. never had to use the original harnesses in them. or pieces. the only thing that they all have in common with the vans is the possibility of having to extend the rear section, due to the cab forward design.
what are you reffering to when you say splicing into original destinations?
the ez wire kits go right to the back of the gauges, right to the engine, come with new headlight plugs, and go to all sending units.
the only thing you would keep would be the wires going into the turn signal switch and the tail light plugs.

I know what you mean. My wiring dosn't look too bad. needs a repair here or there, rusty fuse block. I am going to just add a new fuse box and make a couple repairs to the exsisting wiring and re tape it all. I think I have one or two light sockets that need attension. I'm not going to spend on a complete new harness that dosn't fit anyway and needs a bunch of splicing anyway to make it fit. It just dosn't seem to make sence to do that.

I sure hope it's worth it .my factory harness was burnt pretty good so i picked up a ez harness was hoping to have it in by now but other things have slowed me down ...with a bit of luck i will have it in time for natz ?????????

I've don't just about everything you can do building vans but that wiring harness scares the shit out of me .. still shooting for nat'z maybe

Hywaychild: One wire at a time, its easy, when you go to power it up have all switches off and all relays and fuses out . Conect battery, then add one fuse or relay at a time and check that circuit before adding another . Power it up one circuit at a time.

well if i'm ever able to get back into my shop again i'm going to give it one hell of a shot

Thanks Don, This guy cut every wire, I'm surprised so much works with the minimal rewiring he did.

just start at the positive battery cable on the starter solenoid,,,,,,,hook up a 14 gauge fusible link to a 10 gauge wire,,,,,,,connect it to a screw on the horn relay,,,,,then run another from there to the dash to feed the headlights, fuse box and ignition switch,,,,,,hook another 10 gauge from the alternator output also to a screw on the horn relay,,,,,,,that upgrades the main feed system on the van,,,,,then you work on the other systems,,,,,one wire at a time,,,,,,

They go exactly where the guy that put them in there wanted them to go,,,,,,,,
is the original fusebox and its 9 wires still there,,,,,,,and is there any added on electrical equipment like fog lights, back up lights, radiator fan, radio amp, wiper delay,extra cigarette lighter sockets,,,,,,,,,,,,dome lights or fans on the van,,,,,,,,

I'm going to take a stab at it for fun. #1 is a relocated Horn relay, #2 is a basic junction block, #3 is a condenser to control radio static and what the heck #4 is I have no idea.

and here I thought that was original wiring... should have known better.
