Thanks for the forum, it's been very helpful on getting me started on my van. I do have a question though. I ordered the 2 part weather stripping from High-Tech Glazing, AS1216 and AS937 Lock Strip as suggested by High-Tech Glazing's website. After placing my order I noticed that, on the forum, it was suggested that I use the AS789 Locking Strip. Am I going to have a problem ??

The strip you ordered is a little narower by .025" and about .009" taller. It will probobly be easier to install than the as789 and stand out a little more, but I don't think it will be a problem.

Get yourself the solid straight locking strip tool and use tons of liquid dish soap on everything when installing it all. It also helps to soak all the rubber in hot water for 20 minutes befor trying to use and you might need a heat gun after its installed to get the corners to setttle down into shape.

I used the wider as789 and it was a bear to install, took alot of mustle work, I mean alot of grunt work. its about as much labour as shoveling gravel all day.

push it into shape while hot. Its soft so what ever you use will leave a mark.

when it cools it will retain the shape you put it into.

THANKS ! Especially for letting me know the potential problems AND the solution. Those corners would have left me questioning whether I got the right parts.
I was able to change my order with HighTechGlazing but now I'm not sure that that's a good thing, after reading your "shoveling gravel all day" comment. I hope that comment was for all windows at once and not what doing one window is going to make me feel like.

I'm not sure why AS789 is on the parts list if the AS937 fits better. ???

I found another source for these parts in the US. I'm not sure that quality would be the same. The part #'s were. Cost was the same. I'm kind of worried about customs charges and other fees that may be tacked on to my order. I've never ordered anything from another country. We'll see.

The 789 is on the parts list because thats what i used. I didn't say the other fits better. I said it might go in easier. goin in easier and fitting better are two different things.

Don't worry about ordering out of the country, Canadians do it all the time. Some times you pay duty sometimes you don't depends how they feel at the post office that day. Using a courior like FedUp or the others is not recomended because they like to screw you bad on what they call brokerage fee. Postal service is best. There is a nafta agreement betweeen our counties since the 60s, if the box is marked vintage car parts (and it was made in america) there will be no additional fees. always tell the shipper to mark the box "Vintage Van Parts". that works every time.
