Air Conditioning ? Empty Air Conditioning ?

Post by Oscarm Tue Jan 06, 2015 1:14 pm

Noticed "Vintage Air" has an underdash air conditioning / heat / vent system for early Broncos. It looks really close to what might be needed for our little toaster ovens.
Anyone live near a Vintage Air retailer to check it out further?
    Summer's coming!

By the time I finished 4k.. The system sells for around 1700.00. I installed the major components
The first shop that made all the hose and plumbed it cost 1600.00 they didn't finish it. I ended up taking it to another shop because the first couldn't figure out the trianary switch and the electrical.
That cost 560.00.  I have heat and air with system and I am planning to ditch the heat ( I Don't need it)

I think I will buy some Tank Tops and maybe a swamp cooler and sweat off some of the beer I drank the night before.

I put Vintage Air in my '58 Apache when I had it. I didn't like the way it functioned and it never worked very well, plus it was expensive. Like Ddavllc said, 4-5K when done. There's bound to be a better way IMO

I like my vintage air system. I don't think I need the heat but I live in the south. For me a swamp cooler wouldn't work

We're planning a trip to the beach in our van this summer. I was thinking about building something like this.
    http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ITtlxjvLQis

Cept with a vintage cooler and the fan / motor inside the box.

Maybe not for everyday use. But could help on really hot ones.

Ddavllic: Thanks for the shots. I have an old photo of your doghouse hanging over my shop bench.
Would still be interesting to see if anyone has tried the 'new' Bronco unit..

doesnt cost big bux if you do the install yourself!! Yet --- when paying another shop  the hourly rates (75-100) bux  per -it can get really expensive!! Vintage air's teck people & web site  will answer any questions anyone could want to know. When a shop doesn't care or -Understand  something- its never the customers fault & shouldn't pay that hourly labor rate for them to  learn / find out something!! affraid  Just seems ridiculous to pay some shop 2 ++ grand for an install-just shows  an real non-concern for future customer  returns  for work! I am appalled @ what some shops get away with!! Evil or Very Mad

I'm building one of these for the summer. They make fancy ones for $600 but I'm sure I can piece together one from $20 worth of garage sale parts. Best part is that any time you run out of ice you can stop at any convenience store or gas station and buy ice for a couple of bucks. Add a cheap pump and some rubber hose and the possibilities are endless.. Seat coolers? Anti tailgater weapon? Can't wait to start this project!

Now back to the 9 degree weather outside.

    VERY NICE INSTALL!!!!!!!!! VERY KLEEN...
Having done a couple of them I came up with an idea that we used on Dave Grohls Falcon Van,,,, years ago the 1st one I did the owner insisted on welding a mounting bracket to the front of the truck!!!! of which I didn't like. Too much weight and bouncing on the nose of the truck and the bracket for my taste.
The idea I had was to make a plate that went from each headlight hole to each headlight hole. With that I used that idea on Grohls truck and it worked very well. We also changed the wiper motor angle and were able to actually stuff the unit almost all the way up so that you can barely see it. Also, installed the vents into the dash skirt and it came out very nice.
I just lost my hard drive on the putter and so now have to re organize about 4,500 pictures or I would post them for everyone,,, lots of work to do,,,, drattzzzz,,,,,
I especially like the remote fan cooled evaporator on yours as that is an idea I have had for years now also,, very nice and smart idea...

hear are few pics of my ac install..it was an aftermarket unit with a '88 jeep system;sanden compressor, etc..evaporator was put under the passenger seat.
These pics were on my 300 cu. in. engine. Where I had to enlarge the side of the doghouse under the passenger seat.
I placed the compressor on the 289 recently and had much more room.
