    Picked up the 64 econoline today,but have not had anytime to unload it or even take any picks but I did notice an oil bath air cleaner on it. I thought these were gone by 64.Is this stock ? Or did someone add it.Can anyone shed some light on these for me?

    Thats probably the Heavy Duty Service Option,,,,,,,,You can clean it often,,,,,,,,,,It was still offered on 1969 Chevy Vans.....

    Heavy Duty Service is for dusty conditions and fleet service,,,,,,mostly to save money by not having to buy a new paper one each time.

    My 1964 GMC has an oil bath air cleaner on it.

    So is everyone still using the oil bath air cleaner or has it been converted over to some kind of paper type?

    We need a picture of one that is apart,,,,,,,the bottom half is a reservoir to put oil in it to collect the dirt. Is that the part you can't get off? The upper part with the screen in it does not come apart,,,,,,,

    Like Tim said, alll of ours had oil baths, if you have a 240 or a 300 an easy swap is the GENII big six air cleaner, gives you a fresh/cold air intake port also. A bolt on option... on the liittle sixes try using a late air cleaner, have seen a few that still fit in the doghouse.

    If you still want to use the oil bath filter without the "oil", just take a grinding wheel and cut out the insides. Pull all f that out. The top and bottom sections will still go togeter. Now you can put in a paper element. thats what ive done on both of mine. It still looks stock with out the mess of the oil. Ive been using a filter from Napa , parts # 2055. It fits in there just fine

    Whoa, did i let this one slide!

    I cannot separate the top and bottom halves. I also wrecked my horn button because I didn't know "disconnect battery, press and twist" to get it off... So if I remove the air cleaner and I want to put fresh oil and filter in there, what do I do?

    Well it will be oil OR a paper filter in there,,,,,you need to get the top and bottom apart. 1st check if there is a bolt holding the 2 halves together.And I guess after 40 years of NEVER being serviced, it could be stuck together pretty tight. The bottom is basically a pot that holds a couple of inches of oil in it. There should be a line that says oil level on the side of it. And that upper part is filled with like screens or course steel wool. You need to flush it out. But the guys also say,,,,,rip out that steel wool and screening, cut the guts out of the top and then find a normal paper filter that will fit into the bottom and convert your air cleaner to a normal dry paper filter.
