Correct carb for a 250 six

Post by Moggy on Tue Dec 30, 2014 12:17 pm

The carb on my 250 six is a bit ropy, when the parts store searches for G10 they can only find the 230 motor.
Any idea where the 250 came from? maybe a larger pickup model?
The current carb is I believe a Rochester single barrel.

What year model is your van? The 250 6 cylinder engine was not available in the Chevy G10 & Gmc van until 1967.

This van was owned from new till 2007, at some point the original 230 was replaced with a 250
It has only 7000 miles on it and is a brilliant engine for this van, loads of torque, however I think the carb needs replacing.

Have a rebuild kit and a core, just looked a bit time consuming, thought it would be easier to buy a new one, then couldn't find any!

Many threads on this...if you can't rebuild it or find a good used one to rebuild, there is only one newly made single barrel carb on the market today. Carter, Rochester, Holley, etc..none of them sell new one barrels...only a start-up company in FL called Daytona Parts co. makes a new carb using old reworked Holley molds. They are universal fitment and I bought one, great carb, no issues, fast starts, plenty of power, smooth idle, all you'd expect from a new carb...check out here
http://www.daytonaparts.com/universal-replacement-carburetor.html
PM me if you want to know more....
click the see it in action link for '63 Chevy to see one installed on a 230 engine. BTW, 230 ans 250 are pretty much the same intake, different crank/pistons/head? give it the larger displacement, carb should be the same...
