I believe the woman who Donivan helps out from time to time owns a Corvair van. I believe she does animal rescue. I can't think of her name off the top of my head...

Looks like it had the round mirror stem at some point. I guess they didn't like the smaller mirrors. Like the faded paint...reminds me of a comfortable pair of old jeans...
