1968 GMC G20 Radiator

Hey everyone ..I have a 1968 GMC G20  I need a new radiator any idea ??

I needed one for my 1966 Chevy van and I checked Summit racing. They have mainly aluminum radiators and handle many makes models and years. Bu you don't know if it's an exact fit. I found one on Summit that was about $235. But a friend of mine (who has been fixing radiators for many years) ordered a new custom made copper core for my radiator. He let me have it at his cost of $285 plus I payed him $100 labor for sandblasting, repairing, and installing the top and bottom radiator tanks. That's pretty cheap for a copper radiator that would normally cost over $600.
I looked up an aluminum cross-flow radiator for a 1968 250 inline six chevy van and found one with plastic tanks for $74. That's dirt cheap if it would work, but you don't know.

do you need down flow or cross flow???????

That's the thing... Summit shows a cross flow radiator for an inline 6. Plus it has plastic tanks which will crack if the antifreeze level goes down. Since the V8's use a cross flow, 4 row core finding a new (off the shelf) radiator for the application could be difficult.

I guess that I was fortunate to have connections to a radiator repairman.

the surge tank needs like a 5/8" piece of heater hose to connect it to the radiator tank and about a 1/4" line from the thermostat housing back to it to bleed the air out of the engine,,,,,but 6 cylinders don't use this crossflow radiator set up unless they came with a trailer towing package,,,,,,,

If you have a down flow rad it would not fit. If you have a cross flow rad that someone has put in with a cap on it, you will also need a high point fill which the tank could provide under normal circumstances. Any pics of what you have?

I got a cross flow 2 row, 1" tubes from Skip White performance for about 135$. It doesn't quite fit the existing saddle mounts for the stock 2nd gen rad but is close. The overall dimension was 28 x 19 I think. It's keeping my 350 cool with no problem. There is a trick to running 2 radiator caps if one has to go that route. Simply T the 2 overflows together and use the same pressure cap on both and use an overflow/recovery bottle. Also using an in-line fill from the stat housing. Just an FYI for options.
