This is pretty crazy, I bought a 68 Sportvan Custom 108 4x4 conversion, NO RUST, about a month ago, and have been doing alot of research, but not coming up with much, either. I have decoded the vin for mine somewhat, and get the same thing. Mine was definitely done by an individual and not factory, but a good job with what were obviously primitive fab techniques. There are so many similarities, it alost makes me think someone was converting these. Most of that is going away, for modern drivetrain adaptation. Let's see some pics of the whole thing.

I wonder how many of them are out there. I would like to see how they put your van together.
What's your 4x4 leaver like?  You have duel batteries and tanks also ?
Here's a couple of clips of my van

4wd shift lever is in the same place. I have 3/4 ton 8 lug on mine and it sat higher and is even higher now with new front springs I put on. I also have a nasty dent in about the same place on the side, but worse. My divorced t-case is the only drive train that was left, no engine or tranny were in it. Or interior, but it does have a pop top. I'll have to figure out how to put up some pics.
