wide rear wheels Empty wide rear wheels

Post by Guest Fri Mar 27, 2009 8:51 pm

    hi gang,
I'd love to put some wider rear wheels/tires on my van.
Picture is the height I'd like but maybe 2 inches wider.

Anyone done it? How do I raise the rear to clear the fenders?

    Thanks Smile

That pic is off of my clubs website. One of my clubs members.

Wide tires like these???? N50x15. Rims are 10x15. Re-arch your springs then add a three inch block on each side.

you can use air shocks or the Monroe shocks in the above pic.

you may have to get longer brake lines. I did. Mine were custom made at a hose shop. Don't remember how much they cost.

Hey VB, when you added those lift blocks, did you have any problems with your drive shaft angle? I think your van has an awesome stance and I am thimking about adding lift blocks to mine.

yes I did add a leaf The tires I have on it required it because they are so tall. A lower profile tire wouldn't require it.

Probably a stupid question, but where would I get my springs re-arched? And how much does it cost?

I had all of mine, front and rear re-arched, added a spring to each corner and the 3" blocks with new u bolts for $300.00. Any good spring shop can do it for you.

Awesome job, that's exactly what I want.
Funny though, when I got the van it was lowered...but I think raised is the way to go with these. Looks killer.
I have a spring service shop near, will have to check.
Questions: How do you keep the block from moving, is it bolt through?

Are these the shocks for the towing option sold by rockauto?

How do you determine if you need another leaf?

    What rims did you use?

Boy those Mickey Thompsons must have set you back more than the lift job.

    How is the ride?

    Thanks Smile

Are those MT 12" or 15" wide?? I'm thinking 30 x 12 R 15 for my pickup. I don't think I can go any wider than 12's since my wheels are only 8 1/2" wide. My fronts are 26" tall, might even get lucky and keep them in the fender wells.

The shocks are from Rock auto. The tires and rims are from Summit Racing. The rear tires are N50x15 on 15x10 Cragar rims The widest I could get in that style. Here are the front rims I used:
    http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=CRR-61815&N=700+4294923107+115&autoview=sku .

    Here are the rears:
    http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=CRR-61015&N=700+115&autoview=sku

    the front tires:
    http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MTT-7066&N=700+115&autoview=sku

    the rears:

No sales tax if you are outside Nevada and free shipping to your door. The van drive great with this setup. It is old school and the wheels and tires get a lot of attention at car shows. To determine what you need as far as the springs are concerned you need to take your van to a spring shop and have them measure the space from the ground to the lip of the wheel well then measure the height of the tire. They can then tell you what you will need.

Question: What's the widest tire you can put on a 7" wheel? Anyone?

The "standard" is 2"s wider than the wheel. If you go more than 3"s you may not be able to et the tread to sit flat on the contact patch, due to deformation. It has alot to do with the tire manufacture recomendations.

Just a note,, getting ready to put "old Skool" Cragers on, and the 15" x 10's will JUST set in the wheel wells,if you move the perches over directly in line with the frame, and pinch the outer edges flat on the wheel well. Fills the wells completely with no mud flaps. Not real hard to do,,, just an option have seen it on two trucks and cant wait to afford the rims. In the old days,, LOL,, we used to run the Bridgestone wet and dry indy tires. Illegal for street use, but way wider, looked pretty good when I was a younger kid,, LOL
