Leaf Spring Question..???

I think we have discussed this before but I can not find anything about it...I notice this on GM's only the front wheels seem quite a bit closer to the front part of the wheel well and the tire is not centred in the opening...I plan on having a set of custom front springs built 2 inches over stock taking econopoor's advice today and calling St Louis Spring Co..."Question" there a reason why the front tires are not centred in the wheel well from the factory on theses Early Van's.???. and will I have a problem moving the axle back 1/2 or so..???...I am still learning on theses early's and don't want to worsen the drive ability.. I know I will have to re-center the steering wheel....any advice would Help..Thanks...Joe Van...

Moving it back and giving it extra lift will compound the Off-center issue on the steering wheel. You will probably have to make an adjustable drag link. I asked for 3" over arch on mine and the steering wheel is a bit off to the left of center. Not enough that I cannot live with it and they are settled down some now also which brought it back closer. 2" over stock I wouldn't even worry about it. As the spring cycles up and down the axle moves back would be the only reason I could think of for it being forward to start with. Possibly the castor would be correct at that point on the arch of the spring also. 1st gens don't use shims that I am aware of.

Thanks for the reply Joe..!!!..I thought about cutting that bar also and having the machine shop thread the ends (one side reverse) and installing a adjustable sleeve down the road to center the steering wheel....Here is a photo of mine about 2 inches over stock (ride hight now) if I jack it up to 3 inches where I want it it gets even closer up front..I am guessing tell them move the centering bolt back 1/2 inch or So when I order the new springs.... I was just wondering has anyone else run into this issue.???.I don't want to move the axle back and run into a problem like handling or suspension clearance issues

Mines the same way Joe... I think it would look a lot better if centered.
