Changing wheel bolt pattern from 6 to 5 Empty Changing wheel bolt pattern from 6 to 5

Post by nashster Tue Oct 21, 2014 7:36 pm

I would like to change wheel bolt pattern from 6 lug to 5 on my 69 Chevy.
Want to put some nice wheels on and never cared for any of the 6 lug designs.
Did 6 lug come on 1/2 ton models in 69? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks Smile

Mines a 108. Thought maybe the 6 lug were used on the longer vans. Still learning.

The 6 bolt is 3/4 ton

you can either drill out your axles and hubs to take 5 studs. You use a 5 bolt wheel as a template to center punch the axles and hubs, drill the right size holes and pull in the studs. Studs are availible at any car prts store. NAPA 641-1267 for slightly longer studs.

Or get a complete rear end and front axle from a G10 doner van. and change then at the leaf spring U bolts.

Yeah, I wouldn't mess with that just to get 5-spoke wheel options, why put light duty wheels on a heavy duty suspension? IMHO, look around, there are many great looking 6-lug SUV wheels out there other than Cragar SS styles.....

    Yeah,
I think you guys are right. To much of a hassle to change out.
I know Summit Racing has Plain steel wheels from Wheel Vintique and was thinking about those with a small Chevy dog dish cap. They come in several offsets and widths. They also have the caps.
    Thanks for the input.

Look for old slot mags.  If you hunt, you can find em in 6 lug, and they look great on our vans.  Run 15x9 or 15x10 with 295/50r15 rubber in the back!
