Went right through frame hole no problem. Attached to 1/2" tube with clamp. Don't know if the 1/2" tube just ends up there or if a hose is supposed to come back down to frame like the later models. Anybody know for a 61?

It got to go back down, that's why there are 2 holes there. Otherwise the tank will be venting into the cab, i.e. gas fumes.

The 5/8" fuel hose I tried would not go through the body holes. So I bought 1/2" hose and found it was pretty easy to get it to slide onto the 5/8" tank fitting with some silicone spray.

The walls. Not sure how access the 180deg top turn.

It's back there in the corner above that box. the holes are tucked back around the corner so the hose is hidden from normal view. There is a clip on the body there that holds the metal u-tube the hoses connect to. If you look from below you'll see the hoses going up and through 2 holes in the sheet metal. 1/2" fuel hose will slip onto the tank barb with a little silicone spray lube.

But how do you get into that box on the pickup bed, past the holes in the bottom to get the new hose onto the "U" tube?

I'm not familiar with the pick up, but I assume it's the same and the u-tube and hose connections are above that box hidden behind the corner frame. The van has that box as well.

Like he said, the vent hose comes out of the top of the box. Here's a picture of my '65 pickup. You can see the taillight opening. The hose slips onto a U shaped metal pipe that hangs just above the box. There's a hanger on the bed post there. It's all hard to see. (Obviously missed a spot when I painted the bed.... Embarassed  )

I'm amazed, speechless and informed.  For 11 years I looked at this from the bottom but never looked at the top.  I always thought that "U" bend was inside that gas filler box.  I would ever think it was above it.

This is no problem at all.   Thanks a million for the picture. Now one day I can clean up all this old crap.

Thanks for all the help. Has anyone ever tried removing the brick weight to get a new tank to mount higher ?

Here is a picture of the actual pipe, as prior post indicates it's in the vertical channel next to the tail gate not inside the boxed area in the corner of the bed, that's for the filler pipe.

Anyway the grommet was shot, waterjetted a couple pieces of rubber to make a new grommet.

    Hope it helps.
