Hello all. Not sure if I needed to do an intro but I will. I've been into old cars and old bikes for a while but have always wanted a 60's van. Looked for a while for an econoline but ended up finding a 1964 chevy no door close to home. Me and me 8 yr old are in the early stages of restoration. He said he wNts to drive it in high school. That's pretty awesome I thought. Anyways, I look forward to learning and getting to know some of you through this process. And now for my first question. What other bumpers besides stock is anyone running on their vans? What works well and what doesn't. Thanks again. Josh.

Re: Hello/introquestion
Welcome Josh, I've got an 8 year old grandson my wife and I are raising and hopefully someday he'll be interested in my van but for now he's more into Pokémon cards than anything else. Anyhow, you're going to love it here. Lots of helpful folks. I just used the search feature at the top of the page and found a couple of threads on the subject. Sounds like some Chevy truck bumpers or 2nd Gen bumpers are being used. Here's the link to one of them:

Re: Hello/introquestion
Welcome VV Jmon! Mmm, another van is now in good hands. =)
Hm, disk conversion, aye? Hit up M1Dadio, he's local to the forums and a fellow G-owner. He's got some conversion kit deal that he worked out.
As for driving that thing in high-school... Well, you kid will be - I'd think - the coolest on the damn block, or at least the most distinctive. You'll also have to beat into him how to safely drive a RWD with nothing over it's ass end. =D

Re: Hello/introquestion
Welcome! Are you missing the stock bumpers completely? Even nasty bent ones can be restored and painted by a good old school body shop. If you poke around the forum and ask at several of the old time bone yards around the country, you maybe able to find good used stock ones. Many here are doing customs with molded in facias and put the old bumpers up for sale, that's how I got my rear one. Wood or round steel tubing are also good substitutes, several pics of these here and at the other van site just for Chevy's VCVC, Vintage Chevy Van Club, google it and join there as well...good luck with it!

Re: Hello/introquestion
Thanks guys. I'm more in East Tenn. Duane. Actually in a town called Johnson City. It's close to Bristol. We've already started working on getting her running. He's pumped. Can't wait to take him for his first ride. As far as bumpers, I have none. The ones in the picture on my Avatar are from an old Dodge or Pontiac.. I'm not in a hurry to get anything, I was just wandering if or what people are using other than stock. I'll definitely keep my eye out for a good set. I'm a usual in some of the old junkyards around here and hit up several major swap meets all over the east coast each year. Thanks again for all the congrats and hello's. It's a work in progress.
