Broken vent window Empty Broken vent window

Post by samsvan Tue Jun 23, 2015 2:47 pm

I was "fixing" one of my vent windows and just when I thought I was done, the stud that holds the chrome locking piece on broke. Is this piece removable? I have a spare vent window but it's from the other side. I've tried PB Blaster and heat but it doesn't seem like it wants to come apart.
    Thanks

I saw this post yesterday and I happen to be working on replacing the vent window gaskets on my 67. I looked this morning and on the bottom of my handles there is a small roll pin, (very small) if your's is the same you need a very small punch to take that out and you should be all set. Good Luck and hope this helps. ~ G.K.

GK, That's not what broke. Once you remove the pin and pull the chrome piece off, there's a notched stud that sticks out from the frame. That's the part that broke. I would love to be able to replace it instead of taking the whole vent window out for replacement.
    Thanks, Sam

I'm thinking there is no easy way out of this one. You're probably going to have to take the vent window out. Unless you took the glass out and maybe have the broken part welded?
It could work. Good luck ~ GK.

I would try pulling the glass out and lifting the gasket and seeing if the stud can be welded back on,,,,,,

That's the animal! That stud broke in half. It didn't just pull out. I think they're pressed in so welding is probably my best option. Thanks gentlemen.

One more thing you may want to look at, now I'm just guessing but LMC has very thing you could want for blazers, suburb's, trucks, and I'm thinking a lot of this small stuff could be the same. If its not its got to be close. might be worth a look! ~ GK.

There are "vent locks" available that slip over the edge of the glass....Not really a fix, but would secure the window.......Just be happy that it's not the bottom pivot stud that broke (the one with the spring) This is a common problem with ALL GM wing windows and is near impossible to fix...
