Thanks chaps, got a little more done over the festive period, less of the mechanical and more of the tarty interior stuff
The ceiling is 3mm plywood stuck to batons, the batons were bonded to the van roof. Seeing as there were no templates or old ceiling panels the ceiling took several days just to get the wood to shape. Covered in a period-ish vinyl using spray glue. The glue used is from a company called mega van mats in the uk, very good stuff - no carpet falling of walls in the middle of the summer months heat. I used some automotive insulation off a roll, similar to wool but synthetic as it is water resistant. Seeing as I don't need to save weight or space dynamat seemed an expensive option, especially with the amount needed.
The walls are 6mm ply covered in stretchy carpet with insulation behind, again screwed to bonded on batons. The floor is gates automotive underlay, rubber stuff with 12mm marine ply and topped off with non slip industrial lino. Not exactly a period finish but its light in colour inoffensive and usable. - I can always stick a shagadelic 60's carpet over the top if needed...
Wax-oiled areas of the floor whilst I was there.
Still work in progress, the van even with two stupid cherry bomb silencers (silencers???) feels and sounds like a limo to drive in comparison to the tin can it was a few weeks ago! Much refined, but more to do.
In the future I hope to loose the cherry bombs maybe for some flowmasters and have the pipes going to the back. Order a rock and roll bed/seat for the back and start some general day van/camper things. On my wish list is some factory style wheel vintiques 63 style steel wheels with dog dish caps - painted the white colour... when funds allow. It would possibly be a good idea to drive her futher than 10 miles to see what breaks!
Peace, happy new year!
