they wanted vans and that is what we gave them,

    http://www.hotrod.com/events/coverage/1603-2016-cleveland-piston-powered-auto-rama-van-in/

    so here is what happened
the auto -rama wanted a 1970's area at the show  meaning what you would have seen in the 70's at the strip, the drive-in's and on the roads, so they wanted some vans,
they were expecting 8 or 10 and we got them 46, well they were blown away!!!. next hotrod magazine  made a short video in one night it had 200,000 hits, so hotrod called the photographer to get back down there and take the still photo's  so after the photo's were posted they had 1,000,000 (one million hits) on the photo's and 5,000,000 hits on the videos
hotrod magazine , made a comment we knew the vans never went away, . all in all we had a blast.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing this Dix. That is just to cool to here of all the hits on their website with people wanting to see the vans. I'm sure there was other stuff to see, but I think the vans were the real reason. cheers

got home after 10 and  found this mess in my back yard. Still had some of the door in tent, after it flew??? At least it didn't take out the 68,or my power lines!!!!!!
And yes it was staked down, been there for 6-8 years

Wind probably had more room to get under the tent with only parts in it. Guess you'll have to buy yet another van to fill it up and keep the wind from getting under the tent...hee,hee,hee!!!

I've been working on this when time, money and health/recovery has let me. Not far from tossing on the rest of the purple if the weather ever warms up some more to help bring the shop up to a good temp. Will still have all the weather stripping and going through the mechanical stuff to do. Interior will be a do-over as the purple shag that lined the inside was a major mouse nest !

Yes, another Chevy. Was put on hold when I brought the dodge in. Another hot rod type of thing. BBC , Jag rear axle and a long way to go.

Nice touch with the retractable wheels...especially with a 400 lb table! Looks like you're ready to build just about anything...Great piece of work! Are those trailer wheels? I Love that set up. I have an old Heavy Duty shop table I'd love to apply a setup like yours to it.

Those are 2000lb trailer leveling jacks with 200lb casters welded to their feet. I chose this because the trailer stabilizing jacks don't have a rotating center post and are more stable when extended. where the trail dolly with the wheel , the whole center post rotates and  when extended they are quite wobbly. Since I might be pushing it up over bumps I wanted the jacks/wheels to be as stable as possible. I used 1/2" rod to replace the cranks in the jacks, with a nut welded on the end for the removable crank handle. Quite simple as the jack gears are attached to the shaft with a roll pin so it was just a matter of drilling holes for the pins in the right spot.

Though extra work it wasn't really that expensive to build the gear. Costs are different where I live. The table cost me about $450 in parts and materials and took about 40 hours to build. I see similar welding/fabrication tables for sale in my area for $1200 and $1700. Those dollar number are more because the further north you get the more thing get expensive and that is CND dollars which is about 25% more than USD.
